Claims
- 1. A method of defibrillating a patient's heart comprising the steps of:
- providing a catheter with a plurality of surface electrodes located on a distal end of said catheter, said catheter and said plurality of surface electrodes being arranged in a helical configuration;
- inserting said catheter into the coronary sinus;
- placing an external patch electrode on the patient; and
- applying energy to said electrodes so that the patient's heart is defibrillated.
- 2. The method of defibrillating a patient's heart claimed in claim 1 wherein said external electrode is placed on the patient's back.
- 3. The method of defibrillating a patient's heart claimed in claim 1 wherein from approximately 3 to approximately 50 Joules of energy is applied to said electrodes.
- 4. The method of defibrillating a patient's heart claimed in claim 1 wherein each of said surface electrodes has a length between approximately 1 and approximately 5 millimeters.
