Claims
- 1. A method of determining fracture closure pressure comprising the steps of
- initiating pressure oscillations in the wellbore at a variety of static pressures,
- measuring the fundamental resonant frequency in the wellbore at these different static pressures,
- determining the static pressure at which the resonant frequency and its higher order harmonics shift from frequencies characteristic of an open fracture to frequencies characteristic of a closed fracture, and
- defining this static pressure as the fracture closure pressure.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of initiating pressure oscillations comprises initiating a downgoing pressure wave at the wellhead of a well containing tubing inside of a casing, and wherein the inside of the tubing and casing are hydraulically coupled.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of initiating pressure oscillations comprises rapidly removing a small amount of fluid from the well.
