In a method of forming a light-control panel from a multi-element strip member, the method comprising:providing first and second elongated light-transmitting strip portions and an elongated, relatively opaque strip portion; orienting said strip portions in a generally parallel array, each strip portion having right and left longitudinally extending edge portions; positioning said strip portions so that said first strip portion overlaps at least a substantial portion of the transverse width of said relatively opaque strip portion, and said left edge portions of said first strip portion and of said relatively opaque strip portion are substantially superimposed, and so that said right edge portion of said relatively opaque strip portion and said left edge portion of said second strip portion have a superimposed relationship to each other, leaving most of the transverse width of said second strip portion free of said superimposed relationship with said relatively opaque strip portion; joining said left edge portion of said first strip portion to said left edge portion of said relatively opaque strip, and joining said right edge portion of said relatively opaque strip portion to said left edge portion of said second strip portion to thereby form a three-element strip member; positioning longitudinally extending segments of said three-element strip member in parallel and partially transversely overlapping relationship; securing selected portions of a first segment to selected portions of an adjacent second segment to form an elongated cell having front and rear walls defined by said first and second light-transmitting strip portions of said second segment, said cell further having two additional walls defined by said relatively opaque strip portions of said first and second segments; and repeating said segment-securing step with additional adjacent segments to form an extended array of parallel cells.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said first positioning step further includes the step of overlapping said left edge portion of said second strip portion with said right edge portion of said relatively opaque strip portion.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said first positioning step further includes the step of overlapping said right edge portion of said relatively opaque strip portion with said left edge portion of said second strip portion.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said segment-positioning step is accomplished by helically winding a continuous length of said three-element strip member, with each successive winding segment partially overlapping the immediately preceding winding segment.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said segment-positioning step is accomplished by cutting said three-element strip member into pieces of predetermined lengths and then laterally offsetting adjacent pieces by a predetermined amount.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein said positioning step includes positioning said relatively opaque strip portion of said first segment so that it overlaps said second strip portion of said second segment, and positioning said left edge portions of said first and second strip portions of said first segment between said right edge portions of said first and second strip portions of said second segment;and said securing step further comprises joining said left edge portion of said first segment first strip portion to said right edge portion of said second segment first strip portion, and joining said left edge portion of said first segment second strip portion to said right edge portion of said second segment second strip portion.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein said strip portion-joining step and said adjacent segment-securing step are both performed while maintaining a substantial overlapping relationship between said first strip portion and said relatively opaque strip portion of each respective three-element strip member.
- 8. In a method of forming a light-control panel from a multi-element strip member, the method comprising:providing first and second elongated light-transmitting strip portions and an elongated, relatively opaque strip portion; orienting said strip portions in a generally parallel array, each strip portion having right and left longitudinally extending edge portions; positioning said strip portions so that said first strip portion overlaps at least a substantial portion of the transverse width of said relatively opaque strip portion, and said left edge portions of said first strip portion and of said relatively opaque strip portion are substantially superimposed, and so that said right edge portion of said relatively opaque strip portion and said left edge portion of said second strip portion have a superimposed relationship to each other, leaving most of the transverse width of said second strip portion free of said superimposed relationship with said relatively opaque strip portion; joining said left edge portion of said first strip portion to said left edge portion of said relatively opaque strip, and joining said right edge portion of said relatively opaque strip portion to said left edge portion of said second strip portion to thereby form a three-element strip member; positioning longitudinally extending segments of said three-element strip member in parallel and partially transversely overlapping relationship by helically winding a continuous length of said three-element strip member, with each successive winding segment partially overlapping the immediately preceding winding segment; said second positioning step including positioning said relatively opaque strip portion of each successive winding segment so that it overlaps said second strip portion of the immediately preceding winding segment, and positioning said left edge portions of said first and second strip portions of each successive winding segment between said right edge portions of said first and second strip portions of the immediately preceding winding segment; and securing said left edge portion of each successive winding segment to said right edge portion of each immediately preceding winding segment first strip portion, and securing said left edge portion of each successive winding segment second strip portion to said right edge portion of each immediately preceding winding segment second strip portion, thereby to form an elongated cell having front and rear walls defined by said first and second light-transmitting strip portions of an immediately preceding winding segment, and said cell further having two additional walls defined by said relatively opaque strip portions of said immediately preceding winding segment and next successive winding segment; and repeating said segment-securing step with additional adjacent segments to form an extended array of parallel cells.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein said strip portion-joining step and said adjacent segment-securing step are both performed while maintaining a substantial overlapping relationship between said first strip portion and said relatively opaque strip portion of each respective three-element strip member.
- 10. In a method of forming a light-control panel from a multi-element strip member, the method comprising:providing first and second elongated light-transmitting strip portions and an elongated, relatively opaque strip portion; orienting said strip portions in a generally parallel array, each strip portion having right and left longitudinally extending edge portions; positioning said strip portions so that said first strip portion overlaps at least a substantial portion of the transverse width of said relatively opaque strip portion, and said left edge portions of said first strip portion and of said relatively opaque strip portion are substantially superimposed, and so that said right edge portion of said relatively opaque strip portion and said left edge portion of said second strip portion have a superimposed relationship to each other, leaving most of the transverse width of said second strip portion free of said superimposed relationship with said relatively opaque strip portion; joining said left edge portion of said first strip portion to said left edge portion of said relatively opaque strip, and joining said right edge portion of said relatively opaque strip portion to said left edge portion of said second strip portion to thereby form a three-element strip member; positioning longitudinally extending segments of said three-element strip member in parallel and partially transversely overlapping relationship by cutting said three-element strip member into pieces of predetermined lengths and then laterally offsetting adjacent pieces by a predetermined amount so that each successive segment partially overlaps the immediately preceding segment; said second positioning step including positioning said relatively opaque strip portion of each successive segment so that it overlaps said second strip portion of the immediately preceding segment, and positioning said left edge portions of said first and second strip portions of each successive segment between said right edge portions of said first and second strip portions of the immediately preceding segment; and securing said left edge portion of each successive segment to said right edge portion of each immediately preceding segment first strip portion, and securing said left edge portion of each successive segment second strip portion to said right edge portion of each immediately preceding segment second strip portion, thereby to form an elongated cell having front and rear walls defined by said first and second light-transmitting strip portions of an immediately preceding segment, and said cell further having two additional walls defined by said relatively opaque strip portions of said immediately preceding segment and next successive segment; and repeating said segment-securing step with additional adjacent segments to form an extended array of parallel cells.
