Claims
- 1. In a communication network of plural peer-to-peer systems, each having a system controller commonly coupled to a shared dynamically alterable talkgroup information database, an improved method of mobility management of talkgroup members as each travels amongst the plural peer-to-peer systems, the method comprising the peer-to-peer system performed steps of:
- identifying a request to register, by a first talkgroup member associated with a first talkgroup, from a first communication unit present in the coverage area of a first peer-to-peer system;
- when the first talkgroup is not currently registered with the first peer-to-peer system, dynamically updating the talkgroup information database to register the first talkgroup as an active talkgroup in the first peer-to-peer system, so as to allow tracking, throughout the communication network, where talkgroup members of the first talkgroup are currently registered, thus facilitating communications amongst talk group members in different peer-to-peer systems for current and future call processing use;
- registering the first communication unit with the first peer-to-peer system; and
- assigning system resources, by the system controller associated with the first peer-to-peer system, to allow the first talkgroup member associated with the registered first communication unit to establish communications with talkgroup members currently registered in associated peer-to-peer systems throughout the communication network.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of identifying a registration request further comprises the step of receiving identification information from said first communication unit indicative of a second peer-to-peer system with which said unit was previously registered.
- 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
- when a second talkgroup member associated with the first talkgroup attempts registration in a second peer-to-peer system, further dynamically updating the talkgroup information database to add an identification of the second peer-to-peer system, and registering the associated communication unit of the second talkgroup member with said second peer-to-peer system.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of deregistering the first communication unit from a second peer-to-peer system where the first communication unit was registered prior to its migrating into the coverage area of the first peer-to-peer system.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of dynamically updating the talkgroup information database to register the first talkgroup as an active talkgroup in the first peer-to-peer system, includes the further step of:
- dynamically updating said talkgroup information database to add at least a second talkgroup with which the first talkgroup member is associated,
- wherein the first talkgroup and the at least a second talkgroup constitute a talkgroup list.
- 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of configuring the associated system controller of the first peer-to-peer system to enable participation in communications amongst all members of each talkgroup identified in the talkgroup list.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of dynamically updating the talkgroup information database to register the first talkgroup as an active talkgroup in the first peer-to-peer system, includes the step of creating a privilege segment of a talkgroup record corresponding to the first talkgroup, such that privilege attributes associated with a peer-to-peer system from where the first communication unit migrated are substantially the same in the first peer-to-peer system.
- 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising, prior to the step of dynamically updating the associated talkgroup information database to register the first talkgroup, the steps of:
- identifying whether the first talkgroup is registered; and
- when the first talkgroup is identified as being currently registered, adding the first communication unit to a dynamically alterable list of currently registered communication units in the first peer-to-peer system associated with the first talkgroup.
- 9. In a communication network of plural peer-to-peer systems, each having a system controller coupled to an associated dynamically alterable talkgroup information database, an improved method of mobility management of talkgroup members as each travels amongst the plural peer-to-peer systems, the method comprising the peer-to-peer system performed steps of:
- identifying a request to register, by a first talkgroup member associated with a first talkgroup, from a first communication unit present in the coverage area of a first peer-to-peer system;
- when the first talkgroup is not currently registered with the first peer-to-peer system, dynamically updating the associated talkgroup information database of the first peer-to-peer system to register the first talkgroup as an active talkgroup therein, and dynamically updating the associated talkgroup information database of at least a second peer-to-peer system so as to allow tracking, throughout the communication network, where talkgroup members of the first talkgroup are currently registered, thus facilitating communications amongst talk group members in different peer-to-peer systems for current and future call processing use;
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein the step of a dynamically updating the associated talkgroup information database of at least a second peer-to-pear system involves adding to an existing talkgroup record in the associated database corresponding to the first talkgroup, an identification of the first peer-to-peer system.
- 11. The method of claim 9, wherein the step of dynamically updating the associated talkgroup information database to register the first talkgroup includes the further step of:
- dynamically updating said associated talkgroup information database to add at least a second talkgroup with which the first talkgroup member is associated,
- wherein the first talkgroup and the at least a second talkgroup constitute a talkgroup list.
- 12. The method of claim 11, further comprising the step of configuring the associated system controller of the first peer-to-peer system to enable participation in communications amongst all members of each talkgroup identified in the talkgroup list.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the step of dynamically updating the associated talkgroup information database to register the first talkgroup includes creating a privilege segment of a talkgroup record corresponding to the first talkgroup, such that privilege attributes associated with a peer-to-peer system from where the first communication unit migrated are substantially the same in the first peer-to-peer system.
- 14. The method of claim 13, further comprising, prior to the step of dynamically updating the associated talkgroup information database to register the first talkgroup, the steps of:
- identifying whether the first talkgroup is registered; and
- when the first talkgroup is registered, adding the first communication unit to a dynamically alterable list of currently registered communication units in the first peer-to-peer system associated with the first talkgroup.
- 15. The method of claim 9, wherein the step of dynamically updating the associated talkgroup information database to register the first talkgroup includes creating a privilege segment of a talkgroup record corresponding to the first talkgroup, such that privilege attributes associated with a peer-to-peer system from where the first communication unit migrated are substantially the same in the first peer-to-peer system.
- 16. The method of claim 9, further comprising, prior to the step of dynamically updating the associated talkgroup information database to register the first talkgroup, the steps of:
- identifying whether the first talkgroup is registered; and
- when the first talkgroup is registered, adding the first communication unit to a dynamically alterable list of currently registered communication units in the first peer-to-peer system associated with the first talkgroup.
