Claims
- 1. A method of producing a floor mat having two substantially parallel edges and a border region of the mat adjacent to each parallel edge that emits light after ambient light is removed, comprising the steps of:
- a. forming vinyl material to provide a central region of the mat, the central region having first and second side edges;
- b. forming vinyl material containing photoactive material in two border regions on opposite sides of the central region, adjacent to the first and second side edges, and
- c. heating the vinyl material to fuse adjacent regions of vinyl material.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
- d. coating a polyurethane top coat onto the mat and heating the mat a second time to cure the top coat.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the vinyl material comprises polyvinyl chloride dispersion resin, polyvinyl chloride blending resin, inorganic filler, plasticizer, a heat stabilizer and a cell stabilizer.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the vinyl material further comprises a blowing agent.
- 5. The method of claim 3, wherein the border vinyl material containing photoactive material further comprises a first pigment to impart a bright color in ambient light.
- 6. The method of claim 4, wherein the border vinyl material containing photoactive material further comprises a first pigment to impart a bright color in ambient light.
- 7. The method of claim 5, wherein the central region vinyl material formed in step (a) further comprises a second pigment to impart a color contrasting with the bright color imparted by the first pigment.
- 8. The method of claim 6, wherein the central region vinyl material formed in step (a) further comprises a second pigment to impart a color contrasting with the bright color imparted by the first pigment.
- 9. The method of claim 7, wherein:
- the plasticizer comprises phthalate ester,
- the heat stabilizer comprises epoxidised soybean oil,
- the bright pigment comprises diarylide yellow, and
- the photoactive material comprises zinc sulfide.
- 10. The method of claim 8, wherein:
- the plasticizer comprises phthalate ester,
- the blowing agent comprises azodicarbonamide,
- the heat stabilizer comprises epoxidised soybean oil,
- the bright pigment comprises diarylide yellow, and
- the photoactive material comprises zinc sulfide.
- 11. A method of producing a floor mat having two substantially parallel edges and a border region of the mat adjacent to each parallel edge that emits light after ambient light is removed, comprising the steps of:
- a. depositing vinyl material on an advancing belt in a central region of the belt,
- b. depositing vinyl material containing photoactive material on the advancing belt in two border regions of the belt on opposite sides of the central region of the belt,
- c. advancing the belt and vinyl material deposited thereon past a means for regulating the thickness of the vinyl on the belt,
- d. advancing the belt and vinyl material deposited thereon through an oven to fuse adjacent regions of vinyl material, and
- e. stripping the fused vinyl material from the belt and passing it through embossing rollers to impart a desired surface texture.
- 12. The method of claim 11, further comprising the steps of:
- f. spraying a polyurethane top coat onto the mat and passing the mat through a second oven.
