Claims
- 1. A method of producing chain links suitable for use in intertwining to form a jewelry chain comprising the steps of:
a) providing a chain link having an inner periphery and an outer periphery, said outer periphery having a first contour, and b) contouring the outer periphery of said chain link to form an outer periphery with a second contour different from said first contour, said inner periphery and said second contour having different shapes.
- 2. A method of producing chain links in accordance with claim 1, wherein said chain link is provided by stamping prior to contouring.
- 3. A method of producing chain links in accordance with claim 1, wherein said chain link is provided by segmenting a wire coiled on a support.
- 4. A method of producing chain links in accordance with claim 1, wherein the outer peripheries of multiple chain links are shaped by arranging said chain links on a support and contouring the outer peripheries of said chain links.
- 5. A method of producing a jewelry chain comprising the steps of:
a) providing a chain link having an inner periphery and an outer periphery, said inner periphery having a respective first contour and said outer periphery having a respective first contour, b) reshaping the outer periphery of said chain link to form an outer periphery having a respective second contour different from said first contour of said outer periphery, said inner periphery and said second contour of said outer periphery having different shapes, and c) intertwining said chain link with other chain links to form a jewelry chain.
- 6. A method in accordance with claim 5, further comprising the step of intertwining said chain link with other chain links for form a jewelry rope chain.
- 7. A method in accordance with claim 5, wherein said reshaping further comprises the reshaping of a plurality of chain links in a group.
- 8. A method in accordance with claim 5, wherein said reshaping further comprises the deforming of said outer periphery of said chain link.
- 9. A method in accordance with claim 8, wherein said reshaping further comprises the deforming of a plurality of chain links in a group.
- 10. A method in accordance with claim 5, wherein
d) said outer periphery includes at least opposing first and second outer peripheral edges and a connecting edge disposed between said first and second outer peripheral edges, and e) wherein said reshaping further comprises the forming of at least three contoured surfaces in at least one of said first and second outer peripheral edges.
- 11. A method in accordance with claim 10, wherein said reshaping further comprises the forming of at least three contoured surfaces in both first and second outer peripheral edges.
- 12. A method in accordance with claim 10, wherein said reshaping further comprises the forming of at least four contoured surfaces in at least one of said first and second outer peripheral edges.
- 13. A method in accordance with claim 5, wherein said inner periphery has a circular shape.
- 14. A method in accordance with claim 13, wherein said outer periphery has at least three planar contours.
- 15. A method of producing a contoured jewelry chain comprising the steps of:
a) forming a chain link in a first processing step, wherein said link is initially formed with an inner periphery and an outer periphery, said inner periphery having a respective first contour and said outer periphery having a respective first contour, b) reshaping the outer periphery of said chain link in a second processing step, wherein said outer periphery is reshaped with a respective second contour different from said first contour of said outer periphery, said inner periphery and said second contour of said outer periphery having different shapes, c) creating a plurality of links in accordance with said first and second processing steps, and d) intertwining said plurality of chain links to form a jewelry chain.
- 16. A method in accordance with claim 15, further comprising the step of intertwining said plurality of chain links to form a jewelry rope chain.
- 17. A method in accordance with claim 15, wherein said plurality of chain links are only contoured prior to the intertwining of said plurality of chain links into a jewelry chain.
- 18. A method in accordance with claim 15, wherein said forming and said reshaping steps are applied to one chain link at a time.
- 19. A method in accordance with claim 15, wherein said forming and said reshaping steps are applied to a plurality of chain links at a time.
- 20. A method in accordance with claim 15, wherein said second contour of said outer periphery is reshaped to comprise at least six facets.
- 21. A method of producing a jewelry chain comprising the steps of:
a) forming a chain link in a first processing step by wrapping a wire around a support, said wire being formed with an inner peripheral surface adjacent said support and an outer peripheral surface opposite said inner peripheral surface, said outer peripheral surface having a first contour, b) reshaping the outer peripheral surface of said wire in a second processing step, wherein said outer peripheral surface is reshaped with a respective second contour different from said first contour of said outer peripheral surface, c) separating said wire into individual chain links, each link having an inner periphery of a shape consistent with said inner peripheral surface of said wire, each link having an outer periphery of a shape consistent with said second contour of said outer periphery of said wire, said inner and outer peripheries of said chain links having different shapes, and d) intertwining said plurality of chain links to form a jewelry chain.
- 22. A method in accordance with claim 21, further comprising the step of intertwining said plurality of chain links to form a jewelry rope chain.
- 23. A method in accordance with claim 21, wherein said second contour of said outer peripheral surface comprises at least three facets.
