Claims
- 1. A chain link suitable for intertwining with other chain links to form a jewelry chain comprising:
a) an inner periphery having a first shape, b) an outer periphery having a second shape, and c) a gap for intertwining one chain link with another, d) said second shape comprising X number of facets disposed around said outer periphery due to a contouring of said outer periphery, e) wherein X is greater than 8.
- 2. A chain link in accordance with claim 1, wherein X is 12.
- 3. A chain link in accordance with claim 1, wherein X is 16.
- 4. A chain link in accordance with claim 1, wherein X is 24.
- 5. A chain link in accordance with claim 1, wherein X is an even integer and said inner periphery is round.
- 6. A chain link in accordance with claim 1, wherein said at least one chain link is formed from hollow wire.
- 7. A chain link in accordance with claim 1, wherein said at least one chain link is formed from solid wire.
- 8. A method of producing chain links suitable for use in making jewelry chains comprising the steps of:
a) providing at least one chain link having an inner periphery, an outer periphery and a thickness, b) providing a mandril having an outer periphery, c) arranging said at least one chain link on said mandril, and d) contouring the outer periphery of said at least one chain link while said at least one chain link is arranged on said mandril, e) said contouring comprising the creation of X number of facets disposed around said outer periphery of said at least one chain link, X having a value that is greater than 8.
- 9. A method in accordance with claim 8, wherein said contouring occurs by multiple passes of a contouring apparatus, each pass resulting in the creation of at least two facets.
- 10. A method in accordance with claim 8, wherein said contouring further comprises the application of a plurality of deformers against the outer periphery of said at least one chain link.
- 11. A method in accordance with claim 10, wherein said plurality of deformers are single edge deformers.
- 12. A method in accordance with claim 10, wherein said plurality of deformers are multiple edge deformers.
- 13. A method in accordance with claim 10, wherein said plurality of deformers further comprise a combination of single edge and multiple edge deformers.
- 14. A method in accordance with claim 10, wherein at least one of said plurality of deformers has a straight edge.
- 15. A method in accordance with claim 10, wherein at least one of said plurality of deformers has a curved edge.
- 16. A method in accordance with claim 8, wherein said at least one chain link is formed from hollow wire.
- 17. A chain link in accordance with claim 8, wherein said at least one chain link is formed from solid wire.
- 18. A method of producing chain links suitable for use in making jewelry chains comprising the steps of:
a) providing a mandril having an outer periphery, b) wrapping a wire around said mandril, said wrapped wire having an inner periphery disposed adjacent said outer periphery of said mandril, and an outer periphery, and c) contouring the outer periphery of said wire and separating said wire into individual chain links suitable for assembly into a jewelry chain, each of said chain links having an outer periphery, d) wherein said contouring comprises the creation of X number of facets disposed around said outer periphery of said chain links, X having a value that is greater than 8.
- 19. A method in accordance with claim 18, wherein said contouring occurs by multiple passes of a contouring apparatus, each pass resulting in the creation of at least two facets.
- 20. A method in accordance with claim 18, wherein said contouring further comprises the application of a plurality of deformers against the outer periphery of said wire.
- 21. A method in accordance with claim 20, wherein said plurality of deformers are single edge deformers.
- 22. A method in accordance with claim 20, wherein said plurality of deformers are multiple edge deformers.
- 23. A method in accordance with claim 20, wherein said plurality of deformers further comprise a combination of single edge and multiple edge deformers.
- 24. A method in accordance with claim 20, wherein at least one of said plurality of deformers has a straight edge.
- 25. A method in accordance with claim 20, wherein at least one of said plurality of deformers has a curved edge.
- 26. A method in accordance with claim 18, wherein said wire is hollow.
- 27. A chain link in accordance with claim 8, wherein said wire is solid.
- 28. A jewelry chain formed from intertwining chain links, a plurality of said chain links comprising:
a) an inner periphery, an outer periphery and a thickness, b) said inner periphery having a first shape and an outer periphery having a second shape, c) said second shape comprising X number of facets disposed around said outer periphery, and d) wherein X is greater than 8 and less than 64.
