Claims
- 1. A method of heating a lightguide preform, comprising the steps of:
- directing first and second gases into first and second plenums, respectively, of a torch, said plenums being separated by a plate;
- passing said gases along respective grooves on opposed major surfaces of said plate to the surface of the torch; and
- igniting the gases to heat said lightguide preform.
- 2. The method as set forth in claim 1, wherein the first and second gases are oxygen and hydrogen, respectively.
- 3. A method of heating an article, comprising the steps of:
- directing gases into first and second plenums; respectively, of a torch, said plenums being separated by a plate;
- further directing said gases along grooves on each major surface of the plate, wherein the grooves are arranged in an interleaved relationship and extend from the respective plenums to an outer edge of the plate to form a plurality of gas outlets; and
- igniting the gases emanating from the outlets to heat the article.
- 4. The method as set forth in claim 3, wherein: the gas directed into the first plenum is oxygen; and the gas directed into the second plenum is hydrogen.
