Claims
- 1. A method of impregnating a solid porous polymer substrate, said method comprising the steps of:immersing a portion of said substrate in a pressurized liquid or supercritical fluid comprising carbon dioxide and a treatment component, wherein said surface treatment component comprises a CO2-philic segment, and wherein said CO2-philic segment is selected from the group consisting of fluorine-containing segments, siloxane-containing segments, and mixtures thereof; impregnating said surface treatment component in said porous substrate; and removing said solid porous polymer substrate from said pressurized liquid or supercritical fluid with said treatment component adhered thereto.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein said carbon dioxide is present in a supercritical state.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein said carbon dioxide is present in a liquid state.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein said surface treatment component comprises a CO2-phobic segment.
- 5. The method according to claim 4, wherein said CO2-phobic segment is selected from the group consisting of lipophilic polymers, oleophilic polymers, aromatic polymers, and mixtures thereof.
- 6. The method according to claim 1, wherein said surface treatment component comprises a fluoroacrylate polymer.
- 7. The method according to claim 1, wherein said CO2-philic segment comprises a siloxane polymer.
- 8. A method according to claim 1, wherein said impregnating step is carried out by lowering the pressure of said liquid or supercritical fluid.
- 9. A method according to claim 1, wherein said impregnating step is carried out by diluting said liquid or supercritical fluid.
- 10. A method according to claim 1, wherein said impregnating step is carried out by raising the temperature of said liquid or supercritical fluid.
- 11. The method according to claim 1, wherein said polymer is an organic polymer.
- 12. The method according to claim 1, wherein said polymer is an inorganic polymer.
