Claims
- 1. A method of forming an injection molded part comprising the steps of:
- attaching a mold having a cavity including a plurality of isolated portions, said mold formed by surfaces of a fixed portion and a movable portion to an injection molding machine and attaching one or more gas pressure lines to the mold in each of said plurality of isolated portions, for directing gas pressure from one of said surfaces of said fixed or movable portion of the mold to the other of said fixed or movable portion;
- injecting a predetermined quantity of melted thermoplastic polymer into the mold, said predetermined quantity of melted thermoplastic polymer being of a lesser volume than the mold cavity;
- injecting a gas under pressure into the mold cavity through said one or more gas pressure lines into said each of said plurality of isolated portions after substantial completion of injection of melted thermoplastic material into the mold cavity while the melted thermoplastic polymer is fluid to completely fill the mold cavity under a predetermined pressure to pressurize the molten thermoplastic polymer against one of said surfaces forming in said other of said fixed or moveable portions;
- said step of injecting a gas under pressure including allowing as to enter the mold cavity through a means in one direction only when a predetermined gas pressure is present in the gas lines and preventing said melted thermoplastic polymer from entering said one or more gas lines;
- cooling said thermoplastic polymer in the mold with said polymer being retained against said surfaces forming the cavity in said other of said fixed or moveable portions in each of said isolated portions; and
- ejecting the part from the mold.
- 2. A method of forming an injection molding part in accordance with claim 1 in which the step of attaching a plurality of gas pressure lines to said mold attaches said plurality of gas lines to said mold movable portion.
- 3. A method of forming an injection molding part in accordance with claim 2 in which the step of attaching a plurality of gas pressure lines to said mold attaches each gas pressure line through a poppet valve opened by a predetermined gas pressure on said gas line.
- 4. A method of forming an injection molding part in accordance with claim 2 in which the step of attaching a plurality of gas pressure lines to said mold attaches each gas pressure line through a porous metal cover over an opening into said mold cavity.
- 5. A method of forming an injection molding part in accordance with claim 1 in which the step of of injecting a gas under pressure into said mold cavity includes injecting a gas through a plurality of gas pressure lines, at least one of said gas pressure lines having a pressure different from the other gas pressure lines.
- 6. A method of forming an injection molding part in accordance with claim 1 in which the step of of injecting a gas under pressure into said mold cavity includes injecting a gas through a plurality of gas pressure lines under the same gas pressure in each gas pressure line.
- 7. A method of forming an injection molding part in accordance with claim 1 including the step of injecting gas under pressure in said mold through said one gas pressure line after cooling said thermoplastic polymer in said mold whereby said gas aides in the ejecting of a part of said mold.
- 8. A method of forming an injecting molded part comprising the steps of:
- attaching a mold having a cavity including a plurality of isolated portions, said mold formed by surfaces of a fixed portion and a movable portion to an injection molding machine including the step of attaching one or more gas pressure lines to said mold in each of said plurality of isolated portions, for directing gas pressure from one of said surfaces of said fixed or movable portion of the mold to the other of said fixed or movable portion;
- injecting a predetermined quantity of melted thermoplastic polymer into the mold, said predetermined quantity of melted thermoplastic polymer being of a lesser volume than the mold cavity;
- ceasing injection of said melted thermoplastic polymer and then subsequently injecting a gas under pressure into the mold cavity through the one or more gas pressure lines into said each of said plurality of isolated portions after injection of melted thermoplastic material into the mold cavity while the melted thermoplastic polymer is fluid to completely fill the mold cavity under a predetermined pressure to pressurize the molten thermoplastic polymer against one of said surfaces forming in said other of said fixed or moveable portions;
- ceasing injection of said gas under pressure;
- cooling said thermoplastic polymer in the mold;
- ejecting the part from the mold; and
- said step of injecting a gas under pressure includes allowing gas to enter the mold cavity through a porous metal cover over an opening into the mold cavity when a predetermined gas pressure is present in the gas liens to prevent melted thermoplastic polymer from entering the gas lines with said polymer being retained against said surfaces forming the cavity in said other of said fixed or moveable portions in each of said isolated portions.
- 9. A method of forming an injection molded part comprising the steps of:
- attaching a mold having a cavity including a plurality of isolated portions, said mold formed by surfaces of a fixed portion and a movable portion to an injection molding machine including the step of attaching one or more gas pressure lines to the mold;
- injecting a predetermined quantity of melted thermoplastic polymer into the mold, said predetermined quantity of melted thermoplastic polymer being of a lesser volume than the mold cavity;
- ceasing injection of said melted thermoplastic polymer and then subsequently injecting a gas under pressure into the mold cavity through one or more gas pressure lines into said each of said plurality of isolated portions after injection of melted thermoplastic material into the mold cavity and while the melted thermoplastic polymer is fluid to completely fill the mold cavity under a predetermined pressure to pressurize the molten thermoplastic polymer against one of said surfaces forming in said other of said fixed or moveable portions;
- ceasing injection of said gas under pressure;
- cooling said thermoplastic polymer in the mold;
- ejecting the part from the mold; and
- said step of injecting a gas under pressure includes attaching one or more gas pressure lines to the mold and allowing gas to enter the mold cavity from each gas pressure line through a poppet valve opened by a predetermined gas pressure present in the gas line to prevent melted thermoplastic polymer from entering the gas lines with said polymer being retained against said surfaces forming the cavity in said other of said fixed or moveable portions in each of said isolated portions.
- 10. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of injecting gas under pressure is accomplished to force said melted thermoplastic polymer from a side of the cavity opposite the injection of the material toward a side of the cavity wherein the injection of the material occurred.
