Claims
- 1. A method for installing a multi-panel, computer driven console in the control room of a nuclear power plant in which a plurality of major plant functions are performed, at least two of the panels having plant-specific algorithms for processing plant operating parameters and distinct indicator, alarm and control system man-machine interfaces pertaining to a respective two major plant functions comprising the steps of:
- (a) installing at least two generic panels in the control room, wherein each generic panel includes a generic hardware configuration and a generic software configuration which has generic parameter processing algorithms, which together define a generic man-machine interface for each of said at least two major plant functions;
- (b) testing the generic panels with test parameters to confirm the interaction of the generic hardware configuration with the generic software configuration;
- (c) outside the control room and in parallel with at least one of the steps (a) and (b), preparing a plant specific software configuration which has plant specific parameter processing algorithms;
- (d) after steps (b) and (c), integrating the plant specific software configuration with the generic panels in the plant control room to define final panels; and
- (e) testing the final panels to confirm the interaction of the generic hardware configuration with the plant specific software configuration, which together provide the plant-specific man-machine interface.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the generic hardware configuration includes substantially vertical wall means having cut-outs, and step (a) includes installing a display screen device in each cut-out and connecting computer means to the display screen devices for processing and displaying digitized data on the display screen devices.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein step (b) includes interactively generating images on said display screen devices in response to variations in the test parameters.
- 4. The method of claim 2, wherein the step (a) is preceded by the step of fabricating each panel wall with the same number and size of said cut outs.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the alarm system interfaces include the display of a multiplicity of alarm tile and the indicator system interfaces includes the display of a multiplicity of operating parameter values; and
- the step (d) of integrating includes employing screens dedicated to display the alarm tile of the plant-specific alarm system in wall cut-outs that are the same size as the cut-outs containing screens dedicated to displaying operating parameter values in the plant-specific indicator system.
