Claims
- 1. A method of loading an intraocular lens into a lens injecting apparatus, and implanting the intraocular lens through a small incision made in an eye, comprising the steps of:
- providing a lens cartridge having a lens delivery passageway, said lens delivery passageway including an open lens delivery passageway portion leading into a closed delivery passageway portion configured for insertion through the small incision made in the eye;
- loading an intraocular lens into the open lens delivery passageway portion of the lens cartridge;
- sliding the lens cartridge into a lens cartridge receiver of a lens injecting apparatus configured for covering the open lens delivery passageway portion of the lens cartridge; and
- forcing the intraocular lens through the lens delivery passageway of the lens cartridge and through the small incision into the eye.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein said open lens delivery passageway portion is covered by a portion of the lens cartridge.
- 3. A method according to claim 2, wherein said open lens delivery passageway portion is covered by a separate portion of the lens cartridge.
- 4. A method according to claim 1, wherein said intraocular lens is preloaded in the lens injecting device for storage.
- 5. A method according to claim 4, wherein the intraocular lens in preloaded in the lens cartridge of the lens injecting device.
- 6. A method according to claim 1, wherein the intraocular lens is preloaded in the lens injecting device for shipment.
- 7. A method according to claim 6, wherein the intraocular lens in preloaded in the lens cartridge of the lens injecting device.
- 8. A method according to claim 1, wherein the intraocular lens is preloaded in the lens injecting device for storage and shipment.
- 9. A method according to claim 8, wherein the intraocular lens in preloaded in the lens cartridge of the lens injecting device.
- 10. A method according to claim 1, wherein said lens delivery passageway inwardly tapers downwardly in a direction of insertion of the intraocular lens for further folding of the lens as the lens advances along the lens delivery passageway.
- 11. A method of loading an intraocular lens into a lens injecting apparatus, and implanting the intraocular lens through a small incision made in an eye, comprising the steps of:
- providing a lens cartridge having a lens delivery passageway, said lens delivery passageway including an open lens delivery passageway portion leading into a closed delivery passageway portion configured for insertion through the small incision made in the eye;
- loading an intraocular lens into the open lens delivery passageway portion of the lens cartridge;
- sliding a cover portion of the lens cartridge over the open lens delivery passageway portion for closing the open lens delivery passageway portion;
- loading the lens cartridge into a lens receiver of the lens injecting apparatus; and
- forcing the intraocular lens through the lens delivery passageway of the lens cartridge and through the small incision into the eye.
- 12. A method according to claim 11, wherein said open lens delivery passageway portion is covered by a portion of the lens cartridge.
- 13. A method according to claim 12, wherein said open lens delivery passageway portion is covered by a separate portion of the lens cartridge.
- 14. A method according to claim 11, wherein said intraocular lens is preloaded in the lens injecting device for storage.
- 15. A method according to claim 14, wherein the intraocular lens in preloaded in the lens cartridge of the lens injecting device.
- 16. A method according to claim 11, wherein the intraocular lens is preloaded in the lens injecting device for shipment.
- 17. A method according to claim 16, wherein the intraocular lens in preloaded in the lens cartridge of the lens injecting device.
- 18. A method according to claim 11, wherein the intraocular lens is preloaded in the lens injecting device for storage and shipment.
- 19. A method according to claim 18, wherein the intraocular lens in preloaded in the lens cartridge of the lens injecting device.
- 20. A method according to claim 11, wherein said lens delivery passageway inwardly tapers downwardly in a direction of insertion of the intraocular lens for further folding of the lens as the lens advances along the lens delivery passageway.
