Claims
- 1. A method of maintaining an exterior of an operating die system, comprising the steps of:providing a die system including an extrusion die, an opening section in the die, and a removable insert on a first side of the opening section with a spacing therebetween; and without interrupting the operation of the die system, removing and replacing the insert.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the insert is removed and replaced by removing the insert from a slot in the die and inserting a replacement insert into the slot.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the removal and replacement steps are performed simultaneously.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of removing and replacing a second insert located on a second side of the opening section with a second spacing therebetween, without interrupting the operation of the die system.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the second insert is removed and replaced by removing the second insert from a second slot in the die and inserting a replacement insert into the slot.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein the removal and replacement steps are performed simultaneously.
- 7. The method of claim 3, wherein the insert is removed from a first end portion of the slot and the replacement insert is inserted at an opposite end portion of the slot.
- 8. The method of claim 6, wherein the second insert is removed from a first end portion of the second slot and the replacement second insert is inserted at an opposite end portion of the second slot.
- 9. The method of claim 2, wherein the insert is removed from the slot by sliding the insert laterally with respect to the opening section.
- 10. A method of maintaining an exterior of an operating die system, comprising the steps of:providing a die system including an extrusion die having an opening section in the extrusion die, a removable first insert on a first side of the opening section with a first spacing therebetween, and a removable second insert on a second side of the opening section with a second spacing therebetween; removing the first insert from the first side of the opening section without interrupting the operating die system; and simultaneously inserting a first replacement insert into the first side of the opening section.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the first insert is removed by sliding the first insert along a length of the extrusion die.
- 12. The method of claim 10, wherein each of the inserts is provided with a tab member for securing the insert in the extrusion die.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein each tab member engages with a corresponding slot member.
- 14. The method of claim 13, wherein each insert is removable by sliding the insert along a length of the extrusion die.
- 15. A method of cleaning and maintaining an extrusion die system without interrupting an extrusion operation, comprising the steps of:providing a die system including an extrusion die having a first die section and a second die section, the first die section and the second die section forming an opening section in the extrusion die, a removable first insert spaced from the opening section and positioned on the first die section and a removable second insert spaced from the opening section and positioned on the second die section; laterally sliding with respect to the opening section the first insert out of the first die section without interrupting the extrusion operation; and laterally sliding with respect to the opening section a replacement first insert into the first die section.
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein a front end portion of the replacement first insert contacts a back end portion of the first insert.
- 17. The method of claim 15, further comprising the steps of:laterally sliding with respect to the opening section the second insert out of the second die section without interrupting the extrusion operation; and laterally sliding with respect to the opening section a replacement second insert into the second die section.
- 18. The method of claim 17, wherein a front end portion of the replacement second insert contacts a back portion of the second insert.
- 19. The method of claim 17, wherein at least one of the first insert and the second insert is removed and replaced with replacement first insert and replacement second insert simultaneously.
