Claims
- 1. A method for manufacturing a vehicle window assembly comprising the steps of:
- extruding a gasket into a predetermined pattern to define a preformed gasket;
- locating said preformed gasket in a retaining fixture having an upper surface, at least a portion of said gasket having a positive relief with respect to said upper surface of said fixture;
- preparing at least one surface of a window panel having a frit layer adapted to engage said gasket including priming said surface with an adhesion promoting primer composition; and
- bonding said gasket to said prepared surface of said window panel by pressing window said panel and gasket into intimate contact with each other to form said panel assembly.
- 2. A method as recited in claim 1, further including heating said frit layer to a temperature of at least 100.degree. F.
- 3. A method as recited in claim 1, further including heating said preformed gasket.
- 4. A method as recited in claim 2, further including heating said frit layer prior to the step of bonding.
- 5. A method as recited in claim 2, further including heating said frit layer during the step of bonding.
- 6. A method as recited in claim 2, further including heating said frit layer after the step of bonding.
- 7. A method as recited in claim 3, including heating said preformed gasket to a temperature sufficient to make said gasket flexible for locating in said fixture.
- 8. A method as recited in claim 3, including heating said gasket to a temperature to promote bonding to said window panel.
- 9. A method as recited claim 4, further including heating said frit layer from a side of said window panel containing said frit layer.
- 10. A method as recited in claim 4, further including heating said flit layer from a side of said window panel opposite said frit layer.
- 11. The method as recited in claim 5, further including heating said frit layer substantially simultaneously with the step of pressing said window panel into contact with said gasket.
- 12. The method as recited in claim 5, further including heating said frit layer after pressing said window panel into contact with said gasket.
- 13. A method as recited in claim 2, wherein heating said frit layer includes irradiating said frit layer with infrared radiation.
- 14. A method as recited in claim 2, wherein heating said frit layer includes using convection heating.
- 15. A method as recited in claim 2, wherein heating said frit layer includes using conduction heating.
- 16. A method as recited in claim 2, wherein heating said frit layer includes using induction heating.
- 17. A method as recited in claim 2, wherein heating said frit layer includes using microwave energy.
- 18. A method as recited in claim 2, wherein heating said frit layer includes using resistive heating.
- 19. A method for manufacturing a vehicle window assembly comprising the steps of:
- extruding a gasket into a predetermined pattern to form a length of gasket having a preformed profile;
- locating said length of gasket in a fixture, at least a portion of said gasket having a positive relief with respect to said fixture; and
- bonding a window panel to said gasket by pressing said window panel against said gasket in said fixture to form the window assembly.
- 20. The method as recited in claim 19, further including preparing at least one surface of said window panel adapted to engage said gasket by priming said surface with an adhesion- promoting compound.
- 21. The method as recited in claim 20, wherein the step of preparing includes priming said surface with a primer composition.
- 22. A method as recited in claim 19, wherein said panel has a frit layer adapted to engage said gasket, said method further including heating said frit layer to a temperature of at least 100 .degree. F.
- 23. A method as recited in claim 22, further including heating said frit layer prior to the step of bonding.
- 24. A method as recited in claim 23, further including heating said frit layer from a side of said window panel containing said frit layer.
- 25. A method as recited in claim 23, further including heating said flit layer from a side of said window panel opposite said frit layer.
- 26. A method as recited in claim 22, further including heating said frit layer during the step of bonding.
- 27. A method as recited in claim 26, further including heating said flit layer substantially simultaneously with the step of pressing said window panel into contact with said gasket.
- 28. A method as recited in claim 26, further including heating said frit layer after pressing said window panel into contact with said gasket.
- 29. A method as recited in claim 22, wherein heating said frit layer includes irradiating said frit layer with infrared radiation.
- 30. A method as recited in claim 22, wherein heating said frit layer includes using convection heating.
- 31. A method as recited in claim 22, wherein heating said frit layer includes using conduction heating.
- 32. A method as recited in claim 22, wherein heating said frit layer includes using induction heating.
- 33. A method as recited in claim 22, wherein heating said frit layer includes using microwave energy.
- 34. A method as recited in claim 22, wherein heating said frit layer includes using resistive heating.
- 35. A method as recited in claim 22, further including heating said frit layer after the step of bonding.
- 36. A method as recited in claim 19, further including heating said length of gasket.
- 37. A method as recited in claim 36, including heating said length of gasket to a temperature sufficient to make said gasket flexible for locating in said fixture.
- 38. A method as recited in claim 36 including heating said gasket to a temperature to promote bonding to said window panel.
- 39. A method for manufacturing a vehicle window assembly comprising the steps of:
- molding a resilient gasket into a predetermined pattern to define a preformed gasket, said molding including injection molding said gasket;
- locating said preformed gasket in a retaining fixture having an upper surface, at least a portion of said gasket having a positive relief with respect to said upper surface of said fixture;
- preparing at least one surface of a window panel having a frit layer adapted to engage said gasket including priming said surface with an adhesion promoting primer composition; and
- bonding said gasket to said prepared surface of said window panel by pressing window said panel and gasket into intimate contact with each other to form said panel assembly.
- 40. A method as recited in claim 39, further including heating said frit layer to a temperature of at least 100.degree. F.
- 41. A method as recited in claim 40, further including heating said frit layer prior to the step of bonding.
- 42. A method as recited in claim 41, further including heating said frit layer from a side of said window panel containing said frit layer.
- 43. A method as recited in claim 41, further including heating said frit layer from a side of said window panel opposite said frit layer.
- 44. A method as recited in claim 40, further including heating said frit layer during the step of bonding.
- 45. The method as recited in claim 44, further including heating said flit layer substantially simultaneously with the step of pressing said window panel into contact with said gasket.
- 46. The method as recited in claim 44, further including heating said frit layer after pressing said window panel into contact with said gasket.
- 47. A method as recited in claim 40, further including heating said frit layer after the step of bonding.
- 48. A method as recited in claim 40, further including heating said preformed gasket.
- 49. A method as recited in claim 48, including heating said preformed gasket to a temperature sufficient to make said gasket flexible for locating in said fixture.
- 50. A method as recited in claim 48, including heating said gasket to a temperature to promote bonding to said window panel.
- 51. A method as recited in claim 40, wherein heating said frit layer includes irradiating said frit layer with infrared radiation.
- 52. A method as recited in claim 40, wherein heating said frit layer includes using convection heating.
- 53. A method as recited in claim 40, wherein heating said frit layer includes using conduction heating.
- 54. A method as recited in claim 40, wherein heating said frit layer includes using induction heating.
- 55. A method as recited in claim 40, wherein heating said frit layer includes using microwave energy.
- 56. A method as recited in claim 40, wherein heating said frit layer includes using resistive heating.
