Claims
- 1. A method of making a component of a two component separable hook and loop fastener, said method comprising the steps of:
- a. providing a magnetic attractant;
- b. associating said magnetic attractant with a base and a plurality of fastening elements carried on said base, said fastening elements selected from the group consisting of loop elements and hook elements for use with a loop fastener; and
- wherein said base and said fastening elements both comprise a magnetically inert constituent that is intimately associated throughout its entire volume with said magnetic attractant.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of associating said magnetic attractant comprises the step of mixing a polymeric plastic resin with a magnetic attractant.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein said mixing step comprises the step of mixing said plastic resin with a magnetic attractant selected from the group consisting of iron, powder, magnetite iron oxide, hematite iron oxide, iron(II) oxide, iron (III) oxide, iron(III) stearate.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of joining said base to a substrate.
- 5. The method of claim 1, said step of associating said magnetic attractant with said base and said fastening elements comprising the step of forming said base and said fastening elements from the same constitutive materials.
- 6. The method of claim 1, said step of associating said magnetic attractant with said base and said fastening elements comprising the step of forming said base and said fastening elements unitarily from the same precursor element.
- 7. The method of claim 6, said step of forming said base and said fastening elements unitarily comprising the step of co-extruding said base and said fastening elements.
- 8. The method of claim 7, further comprising the steps of:
- a. coextruding with said base and said fastening elements a substrate precursor element that is separate from said base; and
- b. joining said precursor element to said base as a substrate.
- 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
- a. forming a substrate precursor element that is separate from said base; and
- b. joining said precursor element to said base as a substrate.
- 10. The method of claim 9, said step of forming said substrate comprising the step of coextruding said substrate with said base.
- 11. A method for making a molded article, said comprising the steps of:
- a. making a component of a two component separable fastener according to the steps comprising:
- i. providing a magnetic attractant;
- ii. associating said magnetic attractant with a plurality of fastening elements carried on a base;
- wherein said fastening elements comprise a magnetically inert constituent that is intimately associated with said magnetic attractant;
- b. placing said separable fastener component into a mold, with said fastening face facing a wall of said mold, said mold comprising:
- i. a fastening element receiving valley region; and
- ii. a magnet inside a mold wall adjacent said fastening element receiving valley;
- whereby said magnet attracts said fastener component toward said mold wall; and
- c. providing molding material to said mold.
- 12. The method for making a molded article of claim 11, wherein said step of associating said magnetic attractant comprises the step of associating said magnetic attractant with said base.
- 13. The method for making a molded article of claim 11, wherein said step of associating said magnetic attractant comprises the step of mixing a polymeric plastic resin with a magnetic attractant.
- 14. The method for making a molded article of claim 13, wherein said mixing step comprises the step of mixing said plastic resin with a magnetic attractant selected from the group consisting of iron, powder, magnetite iron oxide, hematite iron oxide, iron(II) oxide, iron (III) oxide, iron(III) stearate.
- 15. The method for making a molded article of claim 11, further comprising the step of joining said base to a substrate.
