Claims
- 1. A method of hingeably interconnecting planar members, each characterized by having opposing front and back faces and at least one substantially straight side interconnecting said faces, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) cleaning the planar members to remove surface contaminants therefrom;
- (b) securely clamping the planar members together with the faces thereof in engagement and the straight sides thereof aligned and disposed in a coplanar relationship, said straight sides of said planar members being disposed within planes substantially perpendicular to the faces of said members; and
- (c) uniformly depositing an integral bead of a room temperature vulcanizing silicone rubber along substantially the entire length of said straight side portions of said planar members so that said bead overlaps the juncture between said planar members, said silicone rubber being deposited on said straight side portions of said planar members in the form of a bead which is generally semicircular in cross section at any point, said bonding material being deformable whereby when said members are moved into a position wherein said faces are substantially coplanar said bead will be disposed intermediate said straight side portions.
- 2. A method as defined in claim 1 including the step of imprinting indicia upon at least one of said faces when said members are held in a position wherein said faces are substantially coplanar.
- 3. A method of constructing a freestanding hingeably interconnected display device for displaying decorative indicia and the like, said device being characterized by having a first sheet of glass having opposing front and back parallel faces and at least one substantially straight side disposed within a plane generally perpendicular to the plane of said faces, at least one of said faces having indicia imprinted thereon, and a second sheet of glass having opposing front and back parallel faces and at least one substantially straight side disposed within a plane generally perpendicular to the plane of said faces, at least one of said faces having indicia imprinted thereon, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) cleaning the planar members to remove surface contaminants therefrom;
- (b) securely clamping the planar members together with said front faces thereof in engagement and the straight sides thereof aligned and disposed in a coplanar relationship; and
- (c) uniformly depositing an integral bead of a room temperature vulcanizing silicone rubber material along substantially the entire length of said straight side portions of said planer members so that said bead overlaps the juncture between said planar members, said rubber material being deposited on said straight side portions of said planar members in the form of a bead which is generally semicircular in cross section at any point, said rubber material being deformable whereby when said members are moved into a position wherein said front faces are substantially coplanar said bead will be disposed intermediate said straight side portions.
- 4. A method of constructing a freestanding folding glass display device for displaying decorative indicia and the like, said device consisting of a first generally rectangular sheet of glass of substantial thickness having opposing front and back parallel faces and a substantially straight side disposed within a plane generally perpendicular to the plane of said faces, at least one of said faces having indicia imprinted thereon; a second generally rectangular sheet of glass having opposing front and back parallel faces and a substantially straight side disposed within a plane generally perpendicular to the plane of said faces, at least one of said faces having indicia imprinted thereon; and a resilient hinge mechanism swingably interconnecting said sheets of glass, said method consisting of the steps of:
- (a) cleaning the planar members with a soap and water solution to remove surface contaminants therefrom;
- (b) rinsing said planar membesr with deionized water;
- (c) securely clamping the generally rectangular planar members together with said front faces thereof in engagement and the straight sides thereof aligned and disposed in a coplanar relationship; and
- (d) while maintaining said planar members in clamping engagement, and at room temperature, uniformly depositing an integral bead of a silicone rubber material along substantially the entire length of said straight side portions of said planar members so that said bead adheres to said straight side portions and overlaps the juncture between said planar members, but does not penetrate between them, said rubber material being deposited on said straight side portions of said planar members in the form of a bead which is semicircular in cross section at any point, said rubber material being yieldably streachable whereby when said members are swung from clamping engagement into a position wherein said front faces are substantially coplanar said bead will be yieldably deformed so as to be disposed intermediate and straight side portions thereby preventing said straight side portions from moving into engagement.
- 5. A method as defined in claim 4 in which said straight sides of said glass sheets are ground to round the edges thereof.
