Claims
- 1. The method of placing a microporous membrane on a catheter balloon having tapered end portions, which comprises: rolling a rectangular portion of a microporous membrane into a cylinder having overlapped, opposing edges; sealing said opposed edges together; placing said membrane cylinder on said balloon; and sealing ends of said microporous membrane cylinder to spaced portions of said balloon while leaving an annular region between said balloon and said membrane cylinder unsealed wherein said spaced portions of said balloon are between said tapered end portions of said balloon.
- 2. The method of claim 1 in which said microporous membrane is tightly rolled about a mandrel.
- 3. The method of claim 1 in which said membrane cylinder is sealed to the balloon with a heat actuatable adhesive and said membrane opposed edges are sealed together with a heat actuatable adhesive.
- 4. The method of claim 1 in which said balloon has holes which are surrounded by said membrane cylinder after said step of sealing said ends of said membrane cylinder to said spaced sealing to portions of said balloon.
- 5. The method of placing a microporous membrane on a catheter balloon in which said catheter balloon is a molded balloon which has spaced-apart cylindrical portions and a central portion of less diameter than said cylindrical portions, said central portion having a plurality of holes; said method comprising: rolling a rectangular portion of a microporous membrane into a cylinder having overlapping, opposed edges; sealing said opposed edges together; placing said membrane cylinder on said balloon; and sealing the respective ends of said microporous, membrane cylinder to the spaced-apart cylindrical portions of said balloon, whereby said membrane cylinder completely surrounds said central portion of reduced diameter.
- 6. The method of claim 5 in which each end of said balloon is sealed to a catheter shaft.
- 7. The method of claim 6 in which said microporous membrane is tightly rolled into a cylinder about a mandrel.
- 8. The method of claim 7 in which said membrane opposed edges are sealed together with a heat actuatable adhesive, and said membrane cylinder is sealed to the balloon with a heat actuatable adhesive.
- 9. The method of claim 8 in which the pore size of said microporous membrane is less than the size of the holes in said catheter balloon.
