- b. forming a mudguard piece substantially coextensive with the forepart and the intermediate side portions of said upper and having an upper edge portion, a forepart bottom edge, and opposed intermediate side portions depending below said forepart bottom edges a predetermined amount and terminating in mating intermediate bottom edges,
- c. securing the upper edge portion of said mudguard piece to the lower marginal edge portions of the forepart and the intermediate side portions of said upper.
- d. securing said intermediate bottom edges together in mating relationship,
- e. inserting at least one insole member having a bottom face within the forepart of said upper, within said heel portion and within said secured intermediate side portions of said mudguard piece,
- f. securing said forepart marginal edges to said insole member, and
- g. securing an outsole to the bottom face of said insole member.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 in which said insole member comprises a forepart insole and a backpart insole, the step of inserting said insole member comprising inserting said forepart insole within the forepart of the mudguard piece spaced above said forepart marginal edges, and inserting said backpart insole above and adjacent said mating bottom edges and into the heel portion of said upper, the step of securing said forepart marginal edges to said insole member comprising securing said forepart marginal edges to the bottom face of said forepart insole, and securing said heel portion below said backpart insole.
- 3. The method according to claim 2 in which the step of securing said outsole to said insole member comprises securing a forepart outsole to the bottom face of said forepart insole.
- 4. The method according to claim 3 further comprising the step of applying and securing a heel to said heel portion, said heel and said outsole being longitudinally spaced.
- 5. The method according to claim 3 in which said forepart outsole has a peripheral edge, said step of securing the forepart outsole comprises locating said peripheral edge below the forepart marginal edge portions of said upper to expose a substantially uniform area of the forepart portion of said mudguard piece above said outsole.
- 6. The method according to claim 2 in which said forepart insole is tacked to the bottom forepart portion of a shoe last, inserting said shoe last into the secured upper and mudguard piece after the bottom edges of said mudguard piece have been secured together.
- 7. The method according to claim 6 further comprising the step of inserting said backpart insole between the bottom portion of said mudguard piece and the bottom portion of the last, and extending said backpart insole into the heel portion of said upper.
- 8. The method according to claim 7 in which said backpart insole comprises an elongated rigid shank member.
- 9. The method according to claim 7 in which the step of securing said forepart marginal edges to said insole member comprises toe-lasting said forepart marginal edges to said forepart insole, and further comprising the step of heel-lasting said heel portions beneath said backpart insole.
- 10. The method according to claim 2 in which the lower marginal edge portion of said upper underlaps the upper edge portion of said mudguard piece, said forepart insole having a peripheral edge coextensive with the abutting the lower marginal edge portion of said upper, the step of securing said forepart marginal edges to said insole member comprising folding inward about said peripheral edge and against the bottom face of said forepart insole the lower marginal portion of said mudguard piece below the lower marginal edge portion of said upper and securing said lower portion of said mudguard piece to the bottom face of said forepart insole.
