Claims
- 1. A method of making a multi-zone female component for a refastenable fastening device, said female component being capable of engaging a complementary hook fastening component which has a base with individual hooks having blunt heads extending outward from said base, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a first material comprised of at least one structural element, said first material being capable of providing a multiplicity of openings for said hooks so that a plurality of the hooks of the hook component may readily penetrate the thickness of said first material without forcibly piercing said first material;
- (b) providing a second material comprised of at least one structural element, said second material being capable of providing a multiplicity of openings for said hooks so that a plurality of the hooks of the hook component may readily penetrate the thickness of said second material without forcibly piercing said second material;
- (c) folding at least one of said first and second materials over on itself to form a folded structure; and
- (d) securing said first and second materials together to form a multi-zone female component.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said second material has a centerline that divides said second material into halves, and the step (a) of providing a first material comprises providing a first material having a width of about one half the width of said second material, and placing said first material adjacent said second material so that said first material is aligned with the half of said second material on one side of said centerline, and the step (c) of folding at least one of said first and second materials comprises folding the half of said second material that is not aligned with said first material over onto the other half of said second material to form a female component with a layer of said first material between two layers of said second material.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the step (c) of folding at least one of said first and second materials comprises
- (i) placing said first material adjacent said second material to form a laminate; and
- (ii) folding said laminate over on itself so that one part of said first material is folded over onto another part of said first material to form a female component with two thicknesses of said first material between said second material.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said process is carried out on a machine and the first and second materials flow through said machine in a direction known as the machine direction and said folded material is folded so that the fold runs in the machine direction.
- 5. A method of making a multi-zone female component for a refastenable fastening device, said female component being capable of engaging a complimentary hook fastening component which has a base with individual hooks having blunt heads extending outward from said base, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a first material comprised of at least one structural element, said first material being capable of providing a multiplicity of openings for said hooks so that a plurality of the hooks of the hook component may readily penetrate the thickness of said first material without forcibly piercing said first material, said first material selected from the group consisting of: a woven material comprised of a plurality of yams that define interstices therebetween; a screen comprised of a plurality, of structural elements that define interstices therebetween; a perforated film having perforations that define interstices in said perforated film; and a foam having a plurality of interstices therein;
- (b) providing a second material comprised of at least one structural element, said second material being capable of providing a multiplicity of openings for said hooks so that a plurality of the hook component may readily penetrate the thickness of said second material without forcibly piercing said second material, said second material selected from the group consisting of: at least one nonwoven web; at least one layer of woven material; at least one thickness of a screen; and, a plurality of loose particles;
- (c) folding at least one of said first and second materials over on itself to form a folded structure; and
- (d) securing said first and second materials together to form a multi-zone female component.
- 6. The method of claim 5 wherein said second material has a centerline that divides said second material into halves, and the step (a) of providing a first material comprises providing a first material having a width of about one half the width of said second material, and placing said first material adjacent said second material so that said first material is aligned with the half of said second material on one side of said centerline, and the step (c) of folding at least one of said first and second materials comprises folding the half of said second material that is not aligned with said first material over onto the other half of said second material to form a female component with a layer of said first material between two layers of said second material.
- 7. The method of claim 5 wherein the step (c) of folding at
- least one of said first and second materials comprises
- (i) placing said first material adjacent said second material to form a laminate; and
- (ii) folding said laminate over on itself so that one part of said first material is folded over onto another part of said first material to form a female component with two thicknesses of said first material between said second material.
- 8. The method of claim 5 wherein said process is carried out on a machine and the first and second materials flow through said machine in a direction known as the machine direction and said folded material is folded so that the fold runs in the machine direction.
