Claims
- 1. A method of molding a plastic frame for a graphite plate assembly comprising the steps of:
positioning a graphite plate member in a mold cavity, said graphite plate member having a top surface and a bottom surface defined thereon, and having peripheral sides defined along the periphery thereof; positioning a mold core against said graphite plate member and said mold cavity, thereby defining a cavity space surrounding said peripheral sides of said graphite plate member; injecting molten plastic into said cavity space; and separating said mold cavity and said mold core, and removing the resulting molded plastic frame and graphite plate therefrom.
- 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing mold shut-off means on said top or bottom surfaces of said graphite plate member for preventing injected plastic from flowing onto said top or bottom surfaces, respectively.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein said mold shut-off means comprises bordering surfaces defined on said graphite plate member on said top or bottom surfaces thereof, respectively, and shut-off surfaces defined on said mold core or said mold cavity, respectively, for engaging respective bordering surfaces of said graphite plate member.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein said bordering surfaces of said graphite plate member are beveled and wherein said shut-off surfaces of said mold cavity and of said mold core are beveled.
- 5. A method of manufacture for a graphite plate assembly comprising the steps of:
forming a graphite plate member having defined thereon a top surface, a bottom surface, and peripheral sides defined along the periphery thereof; and injection molding a plastic frame surrounding said periphery of said graphite plate member.
- 6. The method of claim 5 further comprising forming frame engaging means on said graphite plate member along said peripheral sides thereof for engaging said injection molded plastic frame, wherein said injection molded plastic frame is in engagement with said frame engaging means.
- 7. The method of claim S wherein said step of injection molding a frame surrounding said graphite plate member comprises:
positioning said graphite plate member in a mold cavity; positioning a mold core against said graphite plate member and said mold cavity, thereby defining a cavity space surrounding said peripheral sides of said graphite plate member; injecting plastic into said cavity space; and separating said mold cavity and said mold core, and removing the resulting graphite plate assembly therefrom.
- 8. The method of claim 7 further comprising providing mold shut-off means on said top or bottom surfaces of said graphite plate member for preventing injected plastic from flowing onto said top or bottom surfaces, respectively.
- 9. The method of claim 6 wherein said step of injection molding a frame surrounding said graphite plate member comprises:
positioning said graphite plate member in a mold cavity; positioning a mold core against said graphite plate member and said mold cavity, thereby defining a cavity space surrounding said peripheral sides of said graphite plate member; injecting plastic into said cavity space; and separating said mold cavity and said mold core, and removing the resulting graphite plate assembly therefrom.
- 10. The method of claim 9 further comprising providing mold shut-off means on said top or bottom surfaces of said graphite plate member for preventing injected plastic from flowing onto said top or bottom surfaces, respectively.
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein said frame engaging means comprises frame engaging protrusions positioned along at least two opposing peripheral sides of said graphite plate member.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein said mold shut-off means comprises bordering surfaces defined on said graphite plate member on said top or bottom surfaces thereof, respectively, and shut-off surfaces defined on said mold core or said mold cavity, respectively, for engaging respective bordering surfaces of said graphite plate member.
- 13. The method of claim 12 wherein said bordering surfaces of said graphite plate member are beveled and wherein said shut-off surfaces of said mold cavity and of said mold core are beveled.
- 14. The method of claim 7 wherein said step of injecting plastic into said cavity space comprises injecting molten plastic through a plurality of spaced plastic injection gates.
- 15. The method of claim 9 wherein said step of injecting plastic into said cavity space comprises injecting molten plastic through a plurality of spaced plastic injection gates.
