Claims
- 1. A method of manufacturing sand molds which comprises mixing (a) 0.0015-0.2 parts by weight of a polycarboxylic acid having 2-20 carbon atoms and containing at least two carboxyl groups per molecule or a hydroxyl carboxylic acid having 2-20 carbon atoms and containing at least one carboxyl group and one hydroxyl group, (b) 0.001-0.05 parts by weight of a magnesium oxide having a size of 220 to 320 angstroms in the [200] direction of the crystal thereof as measured by X-ray diffractometry and (c) one part by weight of a foundry molding sand in the presence of (e) 0.005-0.05 parts by weight of water followed by shaping and curing said shaped mixture.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the hydroxyl carboxylic acid is citric acid or malic acid.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the polycarboxylic acid is maleic anhydride.
