Claims
- 1. The method of manufacturing polyimide foam shapes of uniform density which comprises the steps of:
- providing a quantity of polyimide foam having less than uniform density;
- chopping said foam into flakes having lengths less than about 1/4 inch and a length to thickness ratio of at least about 2 to 1;
- mixing said flakes with a polyimide precursor powder;
- placing said mixture in a mold; and
- heating said mixture to the curing temperature of said precursor powder;
- whereby a foam product having highly uniform density and cell size results.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 including the further step of grinding the at least partially foamed precursor powder to a finely divided powder prior to mixing with said flakes.
