Claims
- 1. A method for manufacturing a steering wheel pad by injection molding, wherein the steering wheel pad is provided with a cover and a pocket portion formed between a first projection and a second projection, said method comprising the steps of:
- injecting a molten resin into a mold cavity defined by separable first and second mold portions and a plurality of extensible and retractable core members provided in one of the first and second mold portions, wherein the plurality of core members are in a retracted position during said step of injecting a molten resin,
- wherein the first and second projections are formed according to the interfitting of the plurality of core members with one another and with the one of the mold portions in which the plurality of core members is provided;
- curing the molten resin;
- separating the first and second mold portions in a mold portion moving direction, such that the steering wheel pad is held on the one of the first and second mold portions provided with the plurality of core members; and
- selectively extending and retracting the plurality of core members so as to automatically disengage the steering wheel pad form the one of the first and second mold portions provided with the plurality of core members
- wherein the plurality of core members comprises a first core member, at least one second core member, and at least one third core member,
- wherein said step of selectively extending and retracting the plurality of core member comprises:
- collectively extending the first core member, the at lease one second core member, and the at least one third core member;
- collectively retracting the first core member and the at least one third core member, thereby separating the first core member and the at least one third core member from the steering wheel pad; and
- retracting the at least one second core member such that a portion of the steering wheel pad contacts a portion of the first core member, thereby causing a reaction force on the steering wheel pad for separating the steering pad from the at least one second core member.
- 2. The method as set forth in claim 1, wherein the step of selectively extending and retracting the plurality of core members includes providing a plurality of recesses in one of said mold portions, each recess corresponding to one of said plurality of core members, said core members extending into and retracting from said recesses to automatically disengage the steering wheel pad.
- 3. A method for manufacturing a steering wheel pad by injection molding using a mold, the pad including a pad body, a holding portion extending from the pad body, the holding portion having a first recess and the pad having a second recess located between the pad body and the holding portion, the mold including a pair of first and second molds, one of the first and second molds having a first core member provided with a first portion for forming the first recess, and a second core member provided with a second portion for forming the second recess, a projecting member, and a main body, the method comprising the steps of:
- closing the first and second molds and injecting a molten resin into a mold cavity defined upon contact between the first and second molds;
- curing the molten resin to form the pad;
- separating the first and second molds and holding the pad in said one of the first and second molds;
- extending the first and second core members from the main body of said one of the first and second molds together with the pad along an extending direction, the first core member being moved in a direction perpendicular to the extending direction to remove the first portion from the first recess; and
- extending the projecting member, which is abutted against the pad, by moving the projecting member with respect to the second core member in the extending direction to resiliently deform the holding portion and to remove the second portion from the second recess.
- 4. The method as set forth in claim 3, wherein the pad has at least two holding portions and wherein the second core member includes at least two second portions, one for each of said at least two holding portions, and at least two first core members.
- 5. The method as set forth in claim 4, wherein there is more than one projecting member.
- 6. The method as set forth in claim 4, wherein the second portion has a distal end, the distal end having a main body side having a round cross-section.
- 7. The method as set forth in claim 4, wherein the first recess is defined having a cross-section that is bent at a main body side in an L-shaped manner and wherein a lower portion of the holding portion is formed by the main body.
- 8. The method as set forth in claim 4, wherein the second recess is formed by a cavity defined solely by the second portion of the second core member.
