Claims
- 1. A method of mounting a utility receptacle to a utility assembly for use in combination with a worksurface, comprising the steps of:
- mounting a base member within an opening formed in the worksurface, wherein the base member includes a first mounting section formed integrally with the base member and defined by separation structure, wherein the first mounting section includes first utility receptacle mounting structure to secure a first utility receptacle having a first mounting configuration to the base member;
- movably mounting a cover to the base member for movement between an open position providing access to the recess and a closed position preventing access to the recess;
- separating the first mounting section from the base member utilizing the separation structure and removing the first mounting section from the base member to thereby remove the first utility receptacle mounting structure in its entirety from the base member and to form an opening in the base member;
- replacing the first mounting section with a second mounting section having second utility receptacle mounting structure configured differently than the first utility receptacle mounting structure; and
- mounting the second mounting section to the base member within the opening formed by removal of the first mounting section from the base member, wherein the second utility receptacle mounting structure is adapted to secure a second utility receptacle having a second mounting configuration, different than the first mounting configuration of the first utility receptacle, to the base member.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of movably mounting a cover to the base member is carried out by securing the cover to a utility receptacle member including an additional utility receptacle, and pivotably mounting the utility receptacle member to the base, wherein pivoting movement of the utility receptacle member provides movement of the cover between its open and closed positions.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first mounting section is formed integrally with the base, and wherein the step of removing the first mounting section comprises separating the first mounting section from the base.
- 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising the step of demarcating the edges of the first mounting section for assisting in separating the first mounting section from the base.
- 5. The method of claim 3, wherein the step of mounting the second mounting section to the base member is carried out by utilizing retaining structure disposed within the recess adjacent the location of the first mounting section, and engaging the second mounting section with the retaining structure after removal of the first mounting section.
- 6. The method of claim 5, wherein the step of separating and removing the first mounting section from the base member is carried out so as to form a shoulder within the recess adjacent the opening formed by removal of the first mounting section, and wherein the retaining structure comprises a locking tab located within the recess and spaced from the shoulder, wherein the step of mounting the second mounting section to the base member is carried out such that an edge defined by the second mounting section is received within the space between the shoulder and the locking tab.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the step of engaging the second mounting section is carried out by engaging the second mounting section with a first surface defined by the shoulder, and deforming a portion of the second mounting section so as to engage a second surface defined by the locking tab for gripping the edge of the second mounting section between the shoulder and the locking tab.
- 8. In a utility assembly for use in combination with a worksurface and including a first mounting section having first utility receptacle mounting structure for securing a first utility receptacle having a first mounting configuration to the first mounting section, a method of mounting a second utility receptacle to the utility assembly, wherein the second utility receptacle has a second mounting configuration different than the first mounting configuration, comprising the steps of:
- separating the first mounting section from the utility assembly utilizing demarcations associated with the utility assembly which define edges of the first mounting section;
- removing the first mounting section from the utility assembly to thereby remove the first utility receptacle mounting structure in its entirety from the utility assembly and to form an opening in the utility assembly in the area previously occupied by the first mounting section;
- replacing the first mounting section with a second mounting section having second utility receptacle mounting structure configured differently than the first utility receptacle mounting structure; and
- mounting the second mounting section to the utility assembly within the opening formed by removal of the first mounting section, wherein the second utility receptacle mounting structure is adapted to secure a second utility receptacle having a second mounting configuration, different than the first mounting configuration of the first utility receptacle, to the utility assembly.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the first mounting section is formed integrally with a base member forming a part of the utility assembly, and wherein the step of removing the first mounting section comprises separating the first mounting section from the base member.
- 10. The method of claim 9, further comprising the step of demarcating the edges of the first mounting section for assisting in separating the first mounting section from the base member.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the step of demarcating the edges of the first mounting section is carried out by forming a series of slots in the base member.
- 12. The method of claim 9, wherein the step of mounting the second mounting section is carried out by utilizing retaining structure associated with the base member and located adjacent the location of the first mounting section, and engaging the second mounting section with the retaining structure after removal of the first mounting section.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the step of separating and removing the first mounting section is carried out so as to form a shoulder adjacent the opening formed by removal of the first mounting section, and wherein the retaining structure comprises a locking tab spaced from the shoulder, wherein the step of mounting the second mounting section is carried out such that an edge defined by the second mounting section is received within the space between the shoulder and the locking tab.
- 14. The method of claim 13, wherein the step of engaging the second mounting section is carried out by engaging the second mounting section with a first surface defined by the shoulder, and deforming a portion of the second mounting section so as to engage a second surface defined by the locking tab for gripping the edge of the second mounting section between the shoulder and the locking tab.
