Claims
- 1. A method for forming perforations in first sections of a continuous film along the length of said continuous film, said first sections alternating with second sections along said continuous film, each of said first sections having a variable length, said second sections having no perforations formed therein, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) feeding said continuous film by a fraction of a given length along a feeding path of said continuous film, said given length being a sum of the length of one of said first sections and a length of one of said second sections;
- (b) actuating simultaneously all of a series of die sets arranged along said feeding path, each of said series of die sets having a plurality of punches and dies;
- (c) feeding said continuous film by a remaining fraction of said given length along said feeding path; and
- (d) actuating a part of said series of die sets after step (c), said part including one or more than one of said series of die sets that are successive to one another.
- 2. A method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising the step of:
- (e) cutting said continuous film at one of said second sections after a corresponding one of said first sections has said perforations formed therein, to form an individual filmstrip with a leader and a trailer formed on opposite longitudinal sides of said one of said first sections, said leader and said trailer having no perforations formed therein in steps (b) and (d).
- 3. A method as claimed in claim 2, wherein said continuous film includes a continuous photographic film, on which a plurality of frame exposure locations may be formed at constant intervals L in each of said first sections by subsequent exposure of said film in a camera, and at least one of said perforations is allocated to each of said frame exposure locations so as to index said frame exposure locations.
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 3, wherein said series of die sets include at least first and second die sets, said first die set being capable of making a first number of said perforations through a length of L.times.A, said second die set, together with said first die set, being capable of making a second number of said perforations through a length of L.times.(A+B); further comprising the steps of:
- actuating said series of die sets in step (b) and said first die set in step (d) so that said perforations are produced in said first section having a length of L.times.(2A+B).
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 4, wherein said perforations are aligned along at least one lateral side of said continuous film.
- 6. A method as claimed in claim 5, wherein said at least one perforation comprises two perforations proximate one another.
- 7. A method as claimed in claim 5, wherein additional perforations, which are distinct from said perforations formed in step (d), are formed in said trailer concurrently with said cutting of said continuous film in step (e).
