Claims
- 1. A method for forming perforations in first sections of a continuous film along the length of said continuous film, said first sections alternating with second sections along said continuous film, each of said first sections having a length corresponding to a particular film type of a plurality of predetermined film types, said second section having no perforations formed therein, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) selecting said film type from among said predetermined film types;
- (b) selecting a first group based on step (a) from among a series of die sets arranged along a feeding path of said continuous film, each of said die sets having a plurality of punches and dies, said first group including at least one of said series of die sets, and when said first group includes two or more of said series of die sets, said two or more die sets of said first group are successive to one another;
- (c) feeding said continuous film by a given length along said feeding path, said given length being a sum of the length of one of said first sections and a length of one of said second sections; and
- (d) actuating said first group at one time after step (c), to simultaneously make said perforations in said first section.
- 2. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said plurality of types of said film are predetermined in accordance with combinations of said die sets available for said first group.
- 3. A method as claimed in claim 2, further comprising the step of:
- (e) cutting said continuous film at one of said second sections after a corresponding one of said first sections have said perforations formed therein in step (d), to form an individual filmstrip with a leader and a trailer formed on opposite longitudinal sides of said corresponding one of said first sections, said leader and said trailer having no perforations formed therein in step (d).
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 3, wherein said continuous film includes a continuous photographic film, on which a plurality of frame exposure locations may be formed at constant intervals L in each of said first sections by subsequent exposure of said photographic film in a camera, and at least one of said perforations is allocated to each of said frame exposure locations so as to index said frame exposure locations.
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 4, wherein said perforations are aligned along at least one lateral side of said continuous film.
- 6. A method as claimed in claim 5, wherein said at least one perforation comprises two perforations proximate one another.
- 7. A method as claimed in claim 5, wherein additional perforations, which are different from said perforations formed in step (d), are formed in said trailer concurrently with said cutting of said continuous film in step (e).
- 8. A method as claimed in claim 5, wherein said predetermined types of said film includes at least first, second and third types, said first sections of said first type having a length L.times.A, said first sections of said second type having a length L.times.(A+B), and said first sections of said third type having a length L.times.(A+B+C), A, B and C each being an integer of more than 1;
- said series of die sets include at least first, second and third die sets, said first die set being capable of making a first number of said perforations through the length of L.times.A, said second die set, together with said first die set, being capable of making a second number of said perforations through the length of L.times.(A+B), said third die set, together with said first and second die sets, being capable of making a third number of said perforations through the length of L.times.(A+B+C); and
- said first group is selected so that said first group comprises said first die set when said first type is selected, said first and second die sets when said second type is selected, and said first to third die sets when said third type is selected.
- 9. A method for making a line of perforations in a first section of a continuous photographic film along at least one of lateral sides of said continuous photographic film, a plurality of said first sections alternating with second sections along said continuous photographic film, said second sections having no perforations formed therein, said first sections defining a plurality of frame exposure locations at constant intervals L therein, at least one of said perforations being allocated to each of said frame exposure locations so as to index said frame exposure locations, said method comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing first and second die sets along a feeding path of said continuous photographic film, each of said first and second die sets having a plurality of punches and dies, said first die set being capable of making a first number of said perforations through a length of L.times.A, A being an integer of more than 1, said second die set, together with said first die set, being capable of making a second number of said perforations through a length of L.times.(A+B), B being an integer of more than 1;
- (b) designating one of first and second film types, said first sections of said first film type having the length L.times.A, said first sections of said second film type having the length L.times.(A+B);
- (c) feeding said continuous photographic film by a given length along said feeding path, said given length being a sum of the length of one of said first sections and a length of one of said second sections;
- (d) actuating, after step (c), only said first die set when said first type is designated, and both of said first and second die sets at a time when said second type is designated, so as to simultaneously make said perforations in said one of said first sections.
- 10. A method as claimed in claim 9, further comprising the step of:
- (e) cutting said continuous film at one of said second sections after one of said first sections has said perforations formed in step (d), to form an individual filmstrip with a leader and a trailer formed on opposite longitudinal sides of said one of said first sections, said leader and said trailer having no perforations formed therein in step (d).
- 11. A method as claimed in claim 10, wherein additional perforations, which are different from said perforations formed in step (d), are formed in said trailer concurrently with said cutting of said continuous film in step (e).
