Claims
- 1. A method of making a terminally heat sterilized plasma like solution, said method comprising:(a) providing a solution comprising: a starch having a molecular weight of at least 150,000 daltons; Na+ present in a concentration ranging from 70 mM to about 160 mM; Ca+ present in a concentration ranging from about 0.5 mM to 4.0 mM; Cl− present in a concentration ranging from 70 mM to 160 mM; Mg+ present in a concentration ranging from 0 mM to 10 mM; K+ present in a concentration ranging from 0 mM to 5 mM, an organic carboxylic acid, salt or ester thereof; and a simple sugar, wherein said solution does not include a conventional biological buffer, and (b) heating said solution to a temperature and for a period of time sufficient to produce a terminally heat sterilized plasma like solution.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said method further comprises a step of adding bicarbonate to said terminally heat sterilized plasma like solution following said heating step.
- 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein said heating is under pressure.
- 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein said heating is to a temperature above the boiling point of water.
- 5. The method according to claim 1, wherein said heating is by autoclaving.
