Claims
- 1. In the process for the preparation of poly(arylene ethers) by a polymerization procedure selected from the group consisting of addition-type polymerizations and step growth type polymerizations, in which the procedure monomers are reacted to form a growing polymer chain, the improvement therein which comprises:
- employing an effective amount of a trifunctional phenol monomer in the polymerization procedure to form an effective amount of a member selected from the group consisting of branched poly(arylene ethers) and star-shaped poly(arylene ethers) providing a mixture of poly(arylene ethers) having a lower melt temperature and a lower melt viscosity than corresponding linear poly(arylene ethers) of equivalent molecular weight.
- 2. The process of claim 1, wherein the trifunctional phenol is a trihydroxy benzene.
