Claims
- 1. A method for producing a filter for use in a fuel flow rate regulating mechanism comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a sheet of microcellular polymer material having fused upper and lower surfaces, each of the surfaces being fused to prevent fuel flow through said surfaces, said sheet also having formations of continuous air bubbles between the upper and lower surfaces;
- (b) heat pressing in the direction of thickness to rearrange certain of the air, bubbles redefining same as independent, non-connected air bubbles; and
- (c) transversely punching from the sheet a filter element of prescribed configuration.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:
- (d) varying at least one of the temperature and the duration of the heat pressing step for different runs of microcellular polymer material to vary the number of connected, continuous air bubbles that are redefined as independent, non-connected air bubbles to produce different flame length-temperature characteristics, as desired.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the continuous air bubbles of the microcellular polymer material provided in step (a) are oriented lengthwise between the upper and lower surfaces of the microcellular polymer material.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the filter element punched in step (c) is punched in a disc shape.
- 5. The method of claim 11, wherein the microcellular polymer material provided in step (a) is an ether urethane polymer and the continuous air bubbles have a diameter of 10-300 .mu.m.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the microcellular polymer material provided in step (a) has a density of 0.1 to 0.6 grams/cm.sup.3.
