Claims
- 1. A method for producing aircraft plate or sheet comprising:
- (a) producing lithium-containing light metal alloy ingot by continuous casting with organic coolant; and
- (b) rolling, extruding, or forging said ingot into aircraft plate or sheet.
- 2. A method for producing aircraft plate or sheet comprising:
- (a) producing aluminum-lithium alloy ingot of more than about 1.5% lithium by weight by continuous casting with organic coolant to form an ingot larger than about 6 inches' thickness or diameter; and
- (b) rolling, extruding, or forging said ingot into aircraft plate or sheet.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein said continuous casting comprises direct chill casting.
