Claims
- 1. A process for producing articles of manufacture using liquid injection molding means comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a hydrosilylation catalyst and an effective amount of a liquid injection molding hydrosilylation catalyst inhibitor compound or compounds having the formula:
- R.sub.1 --O.sub.2 C--CH.dbd.CH--CO.sub.2 --R.sub.2
- wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrocarbon radical having from 3 to about 22 carbon atoms containing at least two carbon atoms triply bonded one to the other as:
- --C.tbd.C--
- and R.sub.2 is hydrogen, R.sub.1 or a hydrocarbon radical having from 3 to about 22 carbon atoms,
- b) providing a liquid composition for injection into a liquid injection molding apparatus comprising a silicone resin that is polymerizable or curable by hydrosilylation
- c) mixing said hydrosilylation catalyst inhibitor, said liquid composition and said hydrosilylation catalyst to form a mixture,
- d) injecting said mixture into a liquid injection molding apparatus; and
- e) polymerizing or curing said mixture into an article of manufacture.
- 2. An injection molded article of manufacture produced by the process of claim 1.
- 3. A process for producing articles of manufacture using liquid injection molding means comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a hydrosilylation catalyst and an effective amount of a liquid injection molding hydrosilylation catalyst inhibitor compound or compounds comprising the formula:
- R.sub.1 --O.sub.2 C--CH.dbd.CH--CO.sub.2 --R.sub.2
- wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrocarbon radical having from 3 to about 22 carbon atoms containing at least two carbon atoms triply bonded one to the other as:
- --C.tbd.--
- and R.sub.2 is hydrogen, R.sub.1 or a hydrocarbon radical having from 3 to about 22 carbon atoms,
- b) providing a liquid composition for injection into a liquid injection molding apparatus comprising a silicone resin that is polymerizable or curable by hydrosilylation,
- c) mixing said hydrosilylation catalyst, said hydrosilylation catalyst inhibitor and said liquid composition to form a mixture,
- d) injecting said mixture into a liquid injection molding apparatus; and
- e) polymerizing or curing said mixture into an article of manufacture.
- 4. An injection molded article of manufacture produced by the process of claim 3.
- 5. The process of claim 1 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises dipropargyl maleate.
- 6. The process of claim 1 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises di(3-pentynyl)maleate.
- 7. The process of claim 1 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises mono(3-butynyl)maleate.
- 8. The process of claim 1 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises allyl 3-butynyl maleate.
- 9. The process of claim 1 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises dipropargyl fumarate.
- 10. The process of claim 1 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises di(3-butynyl)maleate.
- 11. The process of claim 1 wherein said inhibitor compound additionally comprises an inhibitor compound having an inhibition time shorter than the inhibition time of the compound having the formula:
- R.sub.1 O.sub.2 C--CH.dbd.CH--CO.sub.2 R.sub.2
- wherein R.sub.1 may be an organic moiety containing at least two carbon atoms triply bonded one to the other as:
- --C.tbd.C--
- and R.sub.2 may be hydrogen, an organic moiety, or R.sub.1.
- 12. The process of claim 11 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises dipropargyl maleate.
- 13. The process of claim 11 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises di(3-pentynyl)maleate.
- 14. The process of claim 11 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises mono(3-butynyl)maleate.
- 15. The process of claim 11 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises allyl 3-butynyl maleate.
- 16. The process of claim 11 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises dipropargyl fumarate.
- 17. The process of claim 11 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises di(3-butynyl)maleate.
- 18. The process of claim 3 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises dipropargyl maleate.
- 19. The process of claim 3 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises di(3-pentynyl)maleate.
- 20. The process of claim 3 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises mono(3-butynyl)maleate.
- 21. The process of claim 3 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises allyl 3-butynyl maleate.
- 22. The process of claim 3 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises dipropargyl fumarate.
- 23. The process of claim 3 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises di(3-butynyl)maleate.
- 24. The process of claim 3 wherein said inhibitor compound additionally comprises an inhibitor compound having an inhibition time shorter than the inhibition time of the compound having the formula:
- R.sub.1 O.sub.2 C--CH.dbd.CH--CO.sub.2 R.sub.2
- wherein R.sub.1 may be an organic moiety containing at least two carbon atoms triply bonded one to the other as:
- --C.tbd.C--
- and R.sub.2 may be hydrogen, an organic moiety, or R.sub.1.
- 25. The process of claim 24 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises dipropargyl maleate.
- 26. The process of claim 24 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises di(3-pentynyl)maleate.
- 27. The process of claim 24 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises mono(3-butynyl)maleate.
- 28. The process of claim 24 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises allyl 3-butynyl maleate.
- 29. The process of claim 24 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises dipropargyl fumarate.
- 30. The process of claim 24 wherein said inhibitor compound comprises di(3-butynyl)maleate.
- 31. An injection molded article of manufacture produced by the process of claim 5.
- 32. An injection molded article of manufacture produced by the process of claim 6.
