Claims
- 1. A method of producing ethylenediamines represented by the general formula ##STR9## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom, or a methyl or ethyl group, which comprises reacting at a temperature of 100 to 500.degree. C. an aziridine compound of the general formula ##STR10## wherein R is as defined, with ammonia in the gaseous phase in the presence of a solid acid catalyst.
- 2. The method of claim 1 in which the mole ratio of ammonia to the aziridine compound is at least 1.
- 3. The method of claim 1 in which the solid acid catalyst is a molecular sieve-type catalyst.
- 4. The method of claim 2 in which the mole ratio of ammonia to the aziridine compound is from 1 to 50.
- 5. The method of claim 1 in which the reaction is carried out at a temperature of 200 to 450.degree. C.
- 6. The method of claim 1 in which the solid acid catalyst is an oxide selected from the group consisting of silicon oxide, zirconium oxide, titanium oxide, aluminum oxide, zinc oxide, cadmium oxide, lead oxide, bismuth oxide, niobium oxide, lanthanum oxide, antimony oxide and yttrium oxide.
- 7. The method of claim 1 in which the solid acid catalyst is a clay mineral selected from the group consisting of kaolin, bentonite and montmorillonite.
- 8. The method of claim 1 in which the solid acid catalyst is an oxo acid salt selected from the group consisting of phosphates, borates, sulfates, niobates, tungstates, molybdates and titanates.
- 9. The method of claim 1 in which the space velocity is 100 to 30,000 hr.sup.-1.
- 10. The method of claim 1 in which the space velocity is 500 to 10,000 hr.sup.-1.
