Claims
- 1. A method of processing waste materials, particularly for use in the pulping and grading of waste paper, comprising the steps of admitting a quantity of waste material which is in the form of a suspension into a normally closed confining space; comminuting said waste material in the region of a predetermined location of said confining space so as to produce a stock component, a first impurity component of low specific gravity which is in the form of a suspension and a second impurity component of high specific gravity, said comminuting step causing accumulation of said first impurity component in the region of a first location of said confining space which is substantially directly opposite said predetermined location; evacuating at least a portion of said first impurity component from said confining space at said first location; evacuating at least a portion of said second impurity component from said confining space at a second location of the latter different from said first location; and evacuating at least a portion of said stock component from said confining space at a third location of the latter different from said first and second locations.
- 2. A method as defined in claim 1, said confining space being of substantially cylindrical configuration; and wherein said comminution is effected in the region of one end of said confining space and said first location is arranged in the region of the other end of said confining space.
- 3. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein said comminuting step comprises subjecting said waste material to the action of a rotating member, and said first location is arranged substantially on a line with the axis of rotation of said member.
- 4. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein said comminuting step causes the creation in said confining space of a vortex flow having a core region extending from said predetermined location, said first arranged being arranged substantially on a line with said core region.
- 5. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein said third location is arranged in the region of said predetermined location.
- 6. A method as defined in claim 1, and further comprising the step of straining said stock component prior to evacuating the same from said confining space.
- 7. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein evacuation of said first impurity component is carried out using suction.
- 8. A method as defined in claim 7, wherein said step of evacuating said first impurity component comprises pumping the same from said confining space.
- 9. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein said step of evacuating said first impurity component comprises removing the same from said confining space by gravity.
- 10. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein said confining space has an internal overpressure.
- 11. A method as defined in claim 10, wherein evacuation of said first impurity component occurs in response to said overpressure.
- 12. A method as defined in claim 10, wherein evacuation of said stock component occurs in response to said overpressure.
- 13. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein evacuation of said first impurity component is effected discontinuously.
- 14. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein evacuation of said second impurity component is effected discontinuously.
- 15. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein evacuation of said stock component is effected substantially continuously.
- 16. A method as defined in claim 1, said confining space including a confining portion in the circumferential region thereof; and further comprising the step of accumulating said second impurity component in said confining portion prior to evacuation thereof from said confining space.
- 17. A method as defined in claim 16, wherein said comminuting step comprises subjecting said waste material to the action of a rotating member, said confining portion being of substantially annular configuration and being substantially coaxially arranged with said member.
- 18. A method as defined in claim 1, said confining space including communicating first and second sections; and wherein said comminuting step comprises initially comminuting said waste material in said first section and additionally comminuting said waste material in said second section.
- 19. A method as defined in claim 18; and further comprising the step of straining the initially comminuted waste material prior to additionally comminuting the same.
- 20. A method as defined in claim 19, wherein said stock component is produced during the additional comminution of said waste material; and further comprising the step of straining said stock component prior to evacuation of the same from said confining space.
- 21. A method as defined in claim 18, said second location being arranged in said second section; and further comprising the step of evacuating a portion of said second impurity component from said confining space at a predetermined location of said first section.
- 22. A method as defined in claim 18, wherein the initial comminution causes the formation of at least one rope-like wad; and further comprising the step of withdrawing said wad from said confining space at a predetermined location of said first section.
- 23. A method as defined in claim 22, wherein said initial comminution is effected at a location of said first section which is substantially directly opposite said predetermined location.
- 24. A method as defined in claim 22, wherein the withdrawing step comprises pulling said wad from said first section.
