Claims
- 1. A method of holding a template in a first position to form a base plate for a tape cassette with the base plate having an upper surface and a lower surface, the method comprising the steps of:
- partially punching a portion of said template from an upper surface thereof to a lower surface to form a partially punched base plate;
- returning the upper surface and the lower surface of said partially punched base plate to the first position of the template;
- fully punching said base plate returned to the first position of the template from said lower surface thereof to said upper surface such that said base plate is fully punched from said template;
- returning said fully punched base plate to the first position of said template; and
- cutting off said fully punched base plate to discharge said base plate from said template.
- 2. The method of punching a template of claim 1 wherein the base plate is partially punched from an original position of said template by applying a first punch to said upper surface to form a recessed portion thereof and by applying a first die to said lower surface to form a projected portion thereof, so as to produce a first shear plane connected to said upper surface on a peripheral surface of said recessed portion and a second shear plane connected to said lower surface on a peripheral surface of said projected portion.
- 3. The method of punching a template of claim 2 wherein in the step of returning said partially punched base plate to the original position of the template, said lower surface and said upper surface are held between a second punch and a second die.
- 4. The method of punching a template of claim 3 wherein said second punch and said second die are formed of flat surfaces having a larger surface area than said recessed and projected portions formed by the partial punching step.
- 5. The method of punching a template of claim 3 wherein in the full punching step, a third punch is applied to said upper surface and a third die is applied to said lower surface, so as to produce a third shear plane connected with said lower surface on an outer peripheral surface of said recessed portion and a fracture plane connected between said third shear plane and said first shear plane thereby causing the base plate to be completely punched from said template.
- 6. The method of punching a template of claim 5 wherein a lower dead spot position of said first punch is set so that the depth of said first shear plane is approximately 70 to 95% of said third shear plane when the base plate is fully punched.
- 7. The method of punching a template of claim 6 and further including removing a punched flash formed in an end of said fracture plane during said full punching step by sliding contact of said punched flash with a peripheral surface of said recessed portion.
- 8. The method of punching a template of claim 5 wherein in said step of returning said fully punched base plate to the original position of said template, said upper and lower surfaces of said base plate are held between a fourth punch and a fourth die.
- 9. The method of punching a template of claim 8 wherein in said cutting off step, a fifth punch is applied to said upper surface of said punched base plate to discharge said base plate from said template.
