Claims
- 1. A method comprising:providing a planar media with multiple overlapping layers that are recordable by a laser beam from a same side of the layers to form optically readable marks by changing the effective transmission properties of selected areas of the recordable layers for recording information on the media; determining the changes in the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers, due to forming the marks; selecting an order of the recordable layers for recording information on a portion of a first of the layers before recording information on a portion of a second of the layers which portions overlap, depending on the change in effective transmission properties to reduce errors in reading the information from the recordable layers.
- 2. The method of claim 1, in which the determining includes reading information related to the changes of the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers from an area on the optically recordable information carrier, which area contains information about the physical properties of the optically recordable information carrier.
- 3. The method of claim 1, in which the determining includes:measuring the effective transmission properties of one of the optically recordable layers in a portion of the layer that does not contain marks; using a laser to form marks on an information layer; measuring the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers after the marks are formed on the layer; and comparing the measured effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layer before the recording of information on the layer with the measured effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers after the recording of information on the layer.
- 4. The method of claim 1, in which:the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layer after the recording of information on the layer has decreased with respect to the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layer before the recording of information on the layer; and overlapping portions of the first and the second optically recordable layers are inscribed successively, starting with the optically recordable layer situated farther from the laser light source and ending with the optically recordable layer situated nearer the laser light source.
- 5. The method as claimed in claim 1, in which:for a first layer situated closer to the laser light source the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers after the recording of information on the layer has increased with respect to the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layer before the recording of information on the layer; and the first and the second optically recordable layers are overlapping portions inscribed successively, starting with the optically recordable layer situated nearer the laser light source and ending with the optically recordable layer situated farther from the laser light source.
- 6. A recording apparatus comprisingmeans for recording information on multiple overlapping layers by exposure to laser light from a same side of an information carrier; means for determining the changes of the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers, due to the recording of information on the layers; and means for selecting an order of layers for recording information on a portion of a first of the layers before recording information on a portion of a second of the layers, which portions overlap, depending on the changes of the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers to reduce errors in reading the information from the recording layers.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6, in which the determining means are adapted for reading information about the changes of the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers from an area on the optically recordable information carrier, which area contains information about the physical properties of the optically recordable information carrier.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 6, in which the first determining means are adapted for:first measuring the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers before the recording of information on the layers; second measuring effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers after the recording of information on the layers; and comparing the measured effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers before the recording of information on the layers with measured effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers after the recording of information on the layers.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 6, in which:for a first layer situated closer to the laser light source, the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layer after the recording of information on the layer have decreased with respect to the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layer before the recording of information on the layer; and the means to record information inscribes overlapping portions of the first and the second optically recordable layer successively, starting with the optically recordable layer situated farther from the laser light source and ending with the optically recordable layer situated nearer the laser light source.
- 10. The apparatus as claimed in claim 6, in which:for a first layer closer to the source of laser light, the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layer after the recording of information on the layer has increased with respect to the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layer before the recording of information on the layer; and the means to record information inscribes overlapping portions of the first and the second optically recordable layers successively, starting with the optically recordable layer situated nearer the laser light source and ending with the optically recordable layer situated farther from the laser light source.
- 11. Apparatus for programming a recording apparatus, the programming apparatus comprising:apparatus to provide means for determining the changes in the effective transmission properties of an optically recordable layer, due to the recording of information on the layer; and apparatus to provide means for selecting an order of layers for recording information on a portion of a first and a portion of a second optically recordable layer the sequence being based on the changes of the effective transmission properties of the optically recordable layers so as to reduce errors when reading the information from the layers.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11, consisting essentially of programmed computer media.
- 13. An information carrier recorded by the method of claim 1.
- 14. The carrier of claim 13 in which the properties of recorded marks indicate recording information in the first and second layers in a consistent sequence.
- 15. The carrier in which the recorded marks are inscribed in overlapping portions of the first and the second optically recordable layer successively, starting with the optically recordable layer situated farther from the laser light source and ending with the optically recordable layer situated nearer the laser light source.
- 16. The carrier of claim 14 in which the marks are inscribed in overlapping portions of the first and the second optically recordable layers successively, starting with the optically recordable layer situated nearer the laser light source and ending with the optically recordable layer situated farther from the laser light source.
