Claims
- 1. A process comprising:
- (A) providing a firearm having a trigger, a first hammer which is actuated by said trigger and which is mounted on said firearm by a single retainer, and a mainspring assembly;
- (B) actuating said trigger to move said hammer from a cocked position in which said hammer is biased by said mainspring assembly into a released position in which neither said hammer nor said pivot pin is subjected to any biasing forces; then
- (C) removing said retainer and said first hammer; and then
- (D) mounting a second hammer on said firearm via said retainer.
- 2. A process according to claim 1, wherein said first hammer comprises a pull hammer, wherein said step (A) further comprises providing an out of battery pawl which is mounted on said firearm by a second retainer, and wherein said second hammer comprises a release hammer, and further comprising the steps of removing said second retainer, replacing said out of battery pawl with a hook, and mounting said hook on said firearm via said second retainer.
- 3. A process according to claim 1, wherein said retainer comprises a pivot pin.
- 4. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein, upon actuation of said trigger, said mainspring assembly disengages said hammer and seats on a fixed seat.
- 5. A process comprising:
- (A) providing a firearm having a trigger, a hammer which is actuated by said trigger and which is mounted on said firearm by a single pivot pin, and a mainspring assembly;
- (B) actuating said trigger to move said hammer from a cocked position in which said hammer is biased by said mainspring assembly to a released position in which neither said hammer nor said pivot pin is subjected to any biasing forces; and then
- (C) removing said pivot pin and said hammer.
- 6. A process as defined in claim 5, wherein said mainspring assembly is seated on said hammer when said hammer is in said cocked position and is disengaged from said hammer and seated on a fixed seat when said hammer is in said released position.
- 7. A process as defined in claim 6, wherein said seat comprises a trigger housing of said firearm, and wherein said step (B) comprises unseating said mainspring assembly from said hammer and seating said mainspring assembly on said trigger housing as said hammer pivots about said pivot pin towards said released position from said cocked position.
- 8. A process as defined in claim 5, wherein said step of placing said hammer in a cocked position comprises placing said hammer in a position in which it is biased towards said released position by a coil spring of said mainspring assembly.
- 9. A process as defined in claim 5, wherein said hammer comprises a first hammer, and further comprising replacing said first hammer with a second hammer by inserting said pivot pin through said second hammer and into a trigger housing of said firearm, thereby supporting said second hammer in said trigger housing.
- 10. A process as defined in claim 9, wherein said first and second hammers comprise a pull hammer and a release hammer, respectively.
- 11. A process comprising:
- (A) providing a firearm having a trigger housing, a trigger mounted on said trigger housing, and a hammer which is actuated by said trigger and which is mounted in said trigger housing by a single pivot pin; then
- (B) placing said hammer in a cocked position in which said hammer is biased towards a released position by a mainspring assembly seated on said hammer, said released position being one in which neither said hammer nor said pivot pin is subjected to any biasing forces; then
- (C) placing said hammer in said released position by pivoting said hammer about said pivot pin, upon actuation of said trigger, to unseat said mainspring assembly from said hammer and to seat said mainspring assembly on a fixed seat; and then
- (D) removing said pivot pin and said hammer from said trigger housing.
- 12. A process as defined in claim 11, wherein said seat is formed from a sidewall of said trigger housing.
- 13. A process as defined in claim 11, wherein said step of placing said hammer in a cocked position comprises placing said hammer in a position in which it is biased towards said released position by a coil spring of said mainspring assembly.
- 14. A process comprising:
- (A) providing a firearm having a trigger housing, a trigger mounted on said trigger housing, and a pull hammer which is actuated by pulling said trigger and which is mounted in said trigger housing by a single pivot pin; then
- (B) placing said pull hammer in a cocked position in which said pull hammer is biased towards a released position by a mainspring assembly seated on said pull hammer, said released position being one in which neither said pull hammer nor said pivot pin is subjected to any biasing forces; then
- (C) placing said pull hammer in said released position by pivoting said pull hammer about said pivot pin, upon pulling of said trigger, to unseat said mainspring assembly from said pull hammer and to seat said mainspring assembly on said trigger housing; then
- (D) removing said pivot pin and said pull hammer from said trigger housing; and then
- (E) inserting said pivot pin through a release hammer and into said trigger housing, thereby supporting said release hammer in said trigger housing.
- 15. A method as defined in claim 14, further comprising replacing an out of battery pawl with a hook.
- 16. A process comprising:
- (A) providing a firearm having
- (i) a trigger housing,
- (ii) first and second triggers mounted on said trigger housing, and
- (iii) first and second pull hammers which are actuated by pulling said triggers and which are mounted in said trigger housing by a first pivot pin,
- (B) placing said first and second pull hammers in a cocked position in which said pull hammers are biased towards a released position by respective mainspring assemblies seated on said pull hammers, said released position being one in which neither said pull hammers nor said first pivot pin are subjected to any biasing forces; then
- (C) placing said pull hammers in said released position by pivoting said pull hammers about said first pivot pin, upon pulling said triggers, to unseat said mainspring assemblies from said pull hammers and to seat said mainspring assemblies on said trigger housing;
- (D) removing said first pivot pin and said pull hammers from said trigger housing when said pull hammers are in said released position; and
- (E) inserting said first pivot pin through first and second release hammers and into said trigger housing, thereby supporting said release hammers in said trigger housing.
- 17. A method as defined in claim 16, wherein said providing step comprises providing an out of battery pawl which is supported in said trigger housing by a second pivot pin, and further comprising
- removing said second pivot pin and said out of battery pawl from said trigger housing, and
- inserting said second pivot pin through a hook and into said trigger housing, thereby supporting said hook in said trigger housing.
- 18. A method as defined in claim 17, wherein said second pivot pin supports first and second sears in said trigger housing.
