Claims
- 1. A method of removing hydrocarbons from an evacuated bulb, comprising the steps of:
- heating an inorganic porous carrier charged with at least one transition metal material selected from the group consisting of elements of atomic numbers 23 to 29, 41 to 47 and 73 to 79 inclusive and oxides thereof to a temperature of about 22.degree. C.-350.degree. C. in the presence of said hydrocarbon to disintegrate said hydrocarbons into gases capable of being gettered and gettering said gases with an activated metallic getter.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the transition metal material is selected from the group consisting of Fe, Cr, Ni, Cu, Co, Pd, Mn, Ag, Re, W, Pt, Rh, Ir and Rn and mixtures thereof.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the inorganic porous carrier is charged with at least one transition metal material selected from the group consisting of rhodium, copper, platinum and palladium and oxides thereof.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein the carrier is charged with at least two of said transition metal materials.
- 5. The method of claim 3 wherein the carrier is charged with platinum plus an oxide selected from the group consisting of palladium oxide and rhodium oxide.
