Claims
- 1. A method of repelling an insect pest, comprising applying to a subject, in an amount effect to repel said insect pest, a compound of Formula I:
- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein said insect is a member of the order diptera.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, wherein said insect is a mosquito.
- 4. A method according to claim 1, wherein said insect is an Anopheles, Aedes, or Culex mosquito.
- 5. A method according to claim 1, wherein said insect is a tick.
- 6. A method according to claim 1, wherein said insect is a tick selected from the group consisting of Ornithodoris parkeri and the American dog tick.
- 7. A method according to claim 1, wherein said applying step is carried out by topically applying said compound of Formula I to the skin of a subject.
- 8. A method according to claim 1, wherein said applying step is carried out by applying said compound of Formula I to an article, which article is worn by a subject.
- 9. A method according to claim 1, wherein said alkyl is linear.
- 10. A method according to claim 1, wherein R1 is C7 to C13 linear alkyl.
- 11. A method according to claim 1, wherein said compound of Formula I is 2-tridecanone.
- 12. A method according to claim 1, wherein said compound of Formula I is 2-undecanone.
- 13. A method of repelling an insect pest, comprising applying to a subject an active compound in an amount effect to repel said insect pest;
wherein said insect pest is selected from the group consisting of ticks, mosquitoes, thrips, biting flies, deer flies, gnats and aphids; and wherein said active compound is selected from the group consisting of 2-tridecanone, 2-undecanone, and mixtures thereof.
- 14. A method according to claim 13, wherein said insect is a mosquito.
- 15. A method according to claim 13, wherein said insect is an Anopheles, Aedes, or Culex mosquito.
- 16. A method according to claim 13, wherein said insect is a tick.
- 17. A method according to claim 13, wherein said insect is a tick selected from the group consisting of Ornithodoris parkeri and the American dog tick.
- 18. A method according to claim 13, wherein said applying step is carried out by topically applying said active compound to the skin of said subject.
- 19. A method according to claim 13, wherein said applying step is carried out by applying said active compound to an article, which article is worn by a subject.
- 20. A method according to claim 13, wherein said active compound is 2-tridecanone.
- 21. A method according to claim 13, wherein said active compound is 2-undecanone.
