Claims
- 1. A method of resecting a bone surface in the body comprising the steps of:
- moving a rotating milling cutter longitudinally across the bone surface, said longitudinally moving rotating milling cutter cutting said bone surface along the length of the longitudinally moving milling cutter; and
- moving a rotating milling cutter substantially laterally across said bone surface, said laterally moving rotating milling cutter cutting said bone surface along the length of the laterally moving milling cutter; whereby said bone surface is made planar.
- 2. A method of resecting a bone surface as recited in claim 1 wherein said step of laterally moving a milling cutter includes pivoting the milling cutter.
- 3. A method of resecting a bone surface as recited in claim 1 wherein said step of longitudinally moving a milling cutter includes longitudinally moving the milling cutter across the bone surface a plurality of times to form a plurality of spaced troughs.
- 4. A method of resecting a bone surface in the body comprising the steps of
- forming a plurality of elongate troughs in the bone surface with ridges therebetween; and
- removing the ridges to produce a planar bone surface.
- 5. A method of resecting bone as recited in claim 4 wherein the troughs have lengths and said step of removing the ridges includes moving a milling cutter substantially laterally with respect to the lengths of the troughs.
- 6. A method of resecting a bone surface in the body as recited in claim 4 wherein said step of removing the ridges includes pivotally moving a milling cutter to sweep the milling cutter across the ridges.
- 7. A method of resecting a bone surface in the body as recited in claim 6 wherein said trough forming step includes moving a milling cutter longitudinally across the bone surface.
- 8. A method of resecting a bone surface in the body as recited in claim 4 wherein said trough forming step includes moving a milling cutter longitudinally across the bone surface.
- 9. A method of resecting a bone surface in the body comprising the steps of
- moving a rotating milling cutter longitudinally across the bone surface a plurality of times to form a plurality of spaced troughs, said step of longitudinally moving the milling cutter including pivoting the milling cutter to cause the spaced troughs to be angularly oriented relative to each other; and
- moving a rotating milling cutter substantially laterally across said bone surface, said step of laterally moving the milling cutter including pivoting the milling cutter.
- 10. A method of resecting a bone surface as recited in claim 9 wherein said step of laterally moving a milling cutter includes pivoting the milling cutter to sweep the milling cutter across the spaced troughs to level said bone surface.
