Claims
- 1. A method of reducing the damage by endotoxin in a mammal comprising administering to said mammal a therapeutic amount of a compound of the following formula: ##STR3## wherein, X.sub.1 is --O--, --NH, or --CH.sub.2 --;
- X.sub.2 is oxygen or sulfur;
- X.sub.3 is hydroxyl;
- R.sub.1 is an electron withdrawing sulfur containing alkylthio selected from the group consisting of methylthio, ethylthio, isopropyithio, and isobutyl-thio;
- R.sub.2 is --NH.sub.2, --HN (CH.sub.3) , or --NH (lower alkyl).sub.2 ; and
- n is 0or 1.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 is methylthio.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said compound is 2-methylthio-adenosine-5'-triphosphate.

The present application is a continuation-in-part of our pending U.S. patent application Ser. No. 07/976,659, filed Nov. 16, 1992, now abandoned, which is a File Wrapper Continuation of our earlier U.S. patent application Ser. No. 07/681,036, filed Apr. 5, 1991, now abandoned.
