Claims
- 1. A method for treating a mammal experiencing heart failure to prevent or lessen hypertrophy comprising administering chronically to a mammal in need of such treatment a therapeutically effective amount of a leukemia inhibitory factor antagonist antibody, wherein the antagonist antibody binds LIF and blocks or prevents interaction between LIF and its cellular receptor.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the mammal is a human and the antagonist is a human antibody or a humanized antibody.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the LIF binds to a LIF binding region from a monoclonal antibody selected from the group consisting of ATCC HB 11077, HB 11074, and HB 11075.
