Claims
- 1. A method of transporting a spontaneously combustible catalyst comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a sulfided or presulfurized catalyst;
- (b) contacting the sulfided or presulfurized catalyst with a substance comprising at least one oxygen-containing hydrocarbon having at least 20 carbon atoms and having an iodine value of greater than 60,
- (c) placing the thus oxygen-containing hydrocarbon treated catalyst in a container; and
- (d) then transporting the container containing the treated catalyst to a given location.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein about 100 kg or greater of said oxygen-containing hydrocarbon treated spontaneously combustible catalyst is placed in said container.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein about 250 kg or greater of said oxygen-containing hydrocarbon treated spontaneously combustible catalyst is placed in said container.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the oxygen-containing hydrocarbon is selected from the group consisting of acids, acid esters, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes and ethers.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the oxygen-containing hydrocarbon is a di-, tri- and/or poly-fatty acid ester.
- 6. The method of claim 4 wherein the oxygen-containing hydrocarbon is selected from the group consisting of soybean oil, linseed oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, cottonseed oil, olive oil, ung oil, caster oil, rapeseed oil, tall oil peanut oil, canbra oil, perilla oil, vegetable residue, marine oil and mixtures thereof.
- 7. A method of reducing the self-heating characteristics of a spontaneously combustible catalyst comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a sulfided or presulfurized catalyst; and
- (b) contacting the sulfided or presulfurized catalyst with a substance comprising at least one oxygen-containing hydrocarbon having at least 20 carbon atoms and having an iodine value of greater than 60.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein the oxygen-containing hydrocarbon is selected from the group consisting of acids, acid esters, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes and ethers.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the oxygen-containing hydrocarbon is a di-, tri- and/or poly-fatty acid ester.
- 10. The method of claim 8 wherein the oxygen-containing hydrocarbon is selected from the group consisting of soybean oil, linseed oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, cottonseed oil, olive oil, tung oil, caster oil, rapeseed oil, tall oil peanut oil, canbra oil, perilla oil, vegetable residue, marine oil and mixtures thereof.
