Claims
- 1. A method for treating zeolite particles to remove organic templating agent therefrom comprising:
calcining the zeolite particles in a fluidized-bed at a calcining temperature of no higher than about 600° for a period of time sufficient to remove at least about 50% of the organic templating agent.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the zeolite particles are calcined at a calcining temperature and period of time sufficient to remove substantially all of the organic templating agent.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the calcining temperature is no more than about 550° C.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein the calcining temperature is no more than about 500° C.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the calcining step comprises raising the temperature of the fluidized-bed at a rate of no more than about 10° C. per minute.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein the zeolite particles are fluidized with an oxygen-containing gas.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein the oxygen-containing gas is air or a mixture of inert gas with oxygen wherein the concentration of oxygen in the mixture is up to about 28% by volume.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein the zeolite is selected from the group consisting of zeolite beta, zeolite L, TEA-mordenite, MCM-22, MCM-36, MCM-39, MCM-41, MCM-48, PSH-3, ZSM-5, Breck-6, ZSM-11, ZSM-12, ZSM-22, ZSM-23, ZSM-35, ZSM-48, SSZ-32 and TUD-1.
- 9. The method of claim 1 wherein the zeolite is zeolite beta.
- 10. A zeolite catalyst treated in accordance with the method of claim 1.
- 11. The zeolite catalyst of claim 10 wherein the treated zeolite has a strong acidity of at least about 0.55 NH3 mmol/g as measured by ammonia Temperature Programed Desorption.
- 12. The zeolite catalyst of claim 10 wherein the treated zeolite has an activity kEB at 190° C. for the alkylation of benzene with ethylene to produce ethylbenzene, wherein kEB at 190° C. is at least about 0.75.
- 13. The zeolite catalyst of claim 12 wherein said activity kEB at 190° C. is at least about 1.0.
- 14. The zeolite catalyst of claim 10 wherein the treated zeolite has an activity kCU at 170° C. for the alkylation of benzene with propylene to form cumene, wherein kCU at 170° C. is at least about 5.0.
