Claims
- 1. A method of treating inflammation in warmblooded animals comprising the topical administration to said animals of an effective amount of a pharmaceutically active compound of the formula: ##STR6## where: R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, R.sub.8, R.sub.9 and R.sub.10 may be the same or different and are:
- hydrogen,
- alkyl,
- cyano,
- nitro,
- amino,
- haloloweraloxy,
- haloloweralkyl,
- halo,
- loweralkoxy,
- thio,
- acylthio,
- loweralkylthio,
- loweralkylsulfinyl,
- loweralkylsulfonyl and
- hydroxy,
- with the proviso that at least one R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, R.sub.8, R.sub.9, and R.sub.10 is selected from the group consisting of thio, acylthio, loweralkylthio, loweralkylsulfinyl or loweralkylsulfonyl.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-mercaptophenyl-N-phenylnitrone.
- 3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-acetylthiophenyl-N-phenylnitrone.
- 4. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-methylthiophenyl-N-phenylnitrone.
- 5. the method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-methylsulfinylphenyl-N-phenylnitrone.
- 6. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-methylsulfonylphenyl-N-phenylnitrone.
- 7. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-phenyl-N-p-mercaptophenylnitrone.
- 8. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-phenyl-N-p-acetylthiophenylnitrone.
- 9. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-phenyl-N-p-methylthiophenylnitrone.
- 10. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-phenyl-N-p-methylsulfinylphenylnitrone.
- 11. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-phenyl-N-p-methylsulfonylphenylnitrone.
- 12. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-chlorophenyl-N-p-mercaptophenylnitrone.
- 13. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-chlorophenyl-N-p-acetylthiophenylnitrone.
- 14. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-chlorophenyl-N-p-methylthiophenylnitrone.
- 15. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-chlorophenyl-N-p-methylsulfinylphenylnitrone.
- 16. The method according to claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically active compound is .alpha.-p-chlorophenyl-N-p-methylsulfonylphenylnitrone.
