Claims
- 1. A method of placing an orthopedic instrument in a desired position relative to a bony target using an imaging device;providing a housing with a guide passageway through which said instrument is passed; providing at least one targeting arm member fixed to said housing, said targeting member containing at least one relatively radio-opaque target marker that establishes a plane that is co-planar with an axis of said passageway; manipulating said targeting arm member until the plane established by the targeting arm member is co-planar with a beam from an imaging device and a desired location or trajectory relative to a bony target in one view; moving the targeting arm and the imaging device so that they are oriented in an orthogonal position with respect to their co-planar position and manipulating said targeting member until the plane established by the targeting arm member is co-planar with a beam from said imaging device and a desired location or trajectory relative to a bony target; and passing said instrument through said passageway.
- 2. The method of claim 1 which further comprises rotating said targeting member about said axis.
- 3. The method of claim 1 which further comprises securing an angle guide which is part of said housing to bony tissue attached to said bony target.
- 4. The method of claim 3 which further comprises securing said angle guide with a vacuum.
- 5. The method of claim 3 which further comprises securing said angle guide with a screw.
- 6. The method of claim 1 where said bony target is a femoral head and said bony tissue is a femur.
- 7. The method of claim 3 which further comprises securing said angle guide with a pin.
- 8. The method of claim 3 which further comprises securing said angle guide with a clamp.
- 9. The method of claim 3 which further comprises securing said angle guide with a strap.
- 10. The method of claim 1 where said instrument is selected from the group consisting of a pin, nail, rod, screw, wire, and drill bit.
