Claims
- 1. A method of treating a disease or condition mediated by platelet activating factor comprising administering to an animal in need thereof an effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein R1 is —CH2COOH.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 4. The method of claim 2 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein the disease or condition is selected from the group consisting of allergies, asthma, acute respiratory distress syndrome, bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, respiratory infections, sepsis, and shock.
- 6. A method of inhibiting inflammation comprising administering to an animal in need thereof an effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein R1 is —CH2COOH.
- 8. The method of claim 6 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 9. The method of claim 7 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 10. A method of inhibiting aggregation of platelets comprising contacting the platelets with an effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 11. The method of claim 10 wherein R1 is —CH2COOH.
- 12. The method of claim 10 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 13. The method of claim 11 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 14. The method of claim 10 wherein the contacting takes place in vivo.
- 15. A method of inhibiting the production, release or both of interleukin 8 by cells comprising contacting the cells with an effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 16. The method of claim 15 wherein R1 is —CH2COOH.
- 17. The method of claim 15 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 18. The method of claim 16 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 19. The method of claim 15 wherein the contacting takes place in vivo.
- 20. A method of inhibiting the effects of platelet activating factor (PAF) comprising contacting the PAF with an effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- 21. The method of claim 20 wherein R1 is —CH2COOH.
- 22. The method of claim 20 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 23. The method of claim 21 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 24. The method of claim 20 wherein the contacting takes place in vivo.
- 25. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier and a compound of the formula:
- 26. The composition of claim 25 wherein R1 is —CH2COOH.
- 27. The composition of claim 25 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
- 28. The composition of claim 26 wherein R2 is the side chain of alanine.
