Claims
- 1. A method of processor communication in a multi-processor system containing a plurality of processors, wherein at least one processor of the plurality of processors contains a processor communication register (PCR) that provides the at least one processor continuous access to the information stored within the PCR, the method comprising the steps of:
retrieving information from one or more sectors of a PCR contained in a processor of the plurality of processors, wherein one of the sectors is allocated for storing by only an associated one of the plurality of processors; and storing information from the associated processor into its associated sector in each PCR in the plurality of processors.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further wherein at least two processors of the plurality of processors simultaneously retrieves information from their respective PCR.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the same information is contained in each respective PCR contained in the plurality of processors.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further wherein the information is useful to the plurality of processors in coordinating pipelined or parallel multi-processing.
- 5. The method of claim 1, further wherein each of the sectors of the one or more sectors is exclusively allocated for storing by only an associated one of the plurality of processors.
- 6. The method of claim 1, further wherein each of the sectors of the one or more sectors is four-bytes.
- 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising continually updating each sector within each PCR such that each processor of the plurality of processors has access to information stored in its own PCR without loading such information from system memory.
- 8. A processor in a multiprocessor system containing a plurality of processors, comprising:
a processor communication register (PCR) having a plurality of sectors, wherein the processor has access to the PCR and can retrieve information stored in each sector of the plurality of sectors, and wherein one of the sectors of the plurality of sectors within the PCR is allocated for storing by only an associated one of the plurality of processors such that, when the one sector is updated by its associated processor, the processor is enabled for access to the updated information.
- 9. The processor of claim 8, wherein the information is useful to the plurality of processors in coordinating pipelined or parallel multi-processing.
- 10. The processor of claim 8, wherein each of the sectors of the plurality of sectors is exclusively allocated for storing by only an associated one of the plurality of processors.
- 11. The processor of claim 8, wherein each of the sectors of the plurality of sectors is four-bytes.
- 12. The processor of claim 8, wherein the processor has an associated sector within the plurality of sectors and further comprising means for updating each sector within each PCR within the plurality of processors that is associated with the processor such that each processor of the plurality of processors has access to information stored in each updated sector without retrieving such information from system memory.
- 13. The processor of claim 8, wherein the information stored in the PCR is the same information contained every PCR contained in the plurality of processors.
- 14. A multiprocessor system comprising:
a plurality of processors, wherein each processor contains a processor communication register (PCR) having a plurality of sectors, wherein each processor has access to retrieve information stored in each sector of the plurality of sectors within the PCR, and wherein a sector of the plurality of sectors within each PCR in the plurality of processors is allocated for storing by only an associated one of the plurality of processors, and wherein each processor of the plurality of processors updates its associated sector within the plurality of sectors in each PCR such that, when a sector is updated by its associated processor, each processor containing a PCR is enabled for access to the updated information.
- 15. The multiprocessor system of claim 14, wherein the information is useful to the plurality of processors in coordinating pipelined or parallel multi-processing.
- 16. The multiprocessor system of claim 14, wherein each of the sectors of the plurality of sectors is exclusively allocated for storing by only an associated one of the plurality of processors.
- 17. The multiprocessor system of claim 14, wherein each of the sectors of the plurality of sectors is four-bytes.
- 18. The multiprocessor system of claim 14, wherein each processor of the plurality of processors updates each sector within each PCR within the plurality of processors that is associated with that processor such that each processor of the plurality of processors containing a PCR has access to information stored in each updated sector of the plurality of sectors without retrieving such information from system memory.
- 19. The multiprocessor system of claim 14, further wherein at least two processors of the plurality of processors simultaneously retrieves information from their respective PCR.
- 20. The multiprocessor system of claim 14, wherein the same information is contained in each respective PCR contained in the plurality of processors.
