Claims
- 1. Valve means for use in a co-injection nozzle of a multi-coinjection nozzle, multi-polymer injection molding or blow molding machine, wherein the nozzle has an axial central channel which in turn has a combining area, and has at least two orifices in communication with the axial central channel, at least one of the orifices being fixed and annular relative to the combining area of the central channel, comprising,
- an elongated sleeve having a side wall with a port therein, an open end, and an elongated central passageway in communication with the port and the open end, said sleeve being adapted to reciprocate axially within the combining area of the central channel, and to block and unblock said at least two orifices, and
- an elongated pin mounted in a close tolerance slip fit within and adapted to reciprocate axially within the central passageway, said pin having a side wall whose outer surface is adapted to close and open said port, and
- said nozzle central channel combining area and said sleeve having between them no area for significant accumulation of polymer material therein or passage of polymer material therethrough, and said sleeve and pin being adapted such that while the sleeve blocks or does not block the fixed annular orifice there can be an open polymer material flow path extending from another of the orifices through the sleeve central passageway.
- 2. The valve of claim 1 wherein the pin is a solid pin.
- 3. Valve means for use in a co-injection nozzle having a cylindrical central channel in turn having a combining area, of a multi-polymer injection molding or blow-molding machine, wherein the nozzle has at least two orifices in communication with the central channel, at least one of the orifices being fixed and annular relative to the combining area of the central channel, which comprises
- an elongated sleeve having an open end and an elongated side wall having a port therein and an elongated central passageway which is defined by a wall and in communication with the port and the open end, said sleeve being adapted to reciprocate axially within the combining area of the central channel and to block and unblock said at least two orifices, and
- an elongated pin adapted to be mounted within and axially moveable within the central passageway of the sleeve and having a side wall outer surface adapted to close and open said port and to be in a close tolerance slip fat within the sleeve central passageway wall which prevents any significant accumulation or passage of polymer material between the pin side wall outer surface and the sleeve central passageway wall, the elongated sleeve outer surface being adapted to be mounted in a close tolerance slip fit within the combining area of the central channel which prevents any significant accumulation of passage of polymer material between the central channel combining area surface and the side wall outer surface of the sleeve.
- 4. The valve means of claim 3 wherein the elongated pin has a greater axial length than the sleeve.
- 5. The valve means of claim 3 wherein the pin is a solid pin.
- 6. The valve means of claim 3 wherein the sleeve is adapted such that while it blocks or does not block the fixed annular orifice, there can be an open polymer material flow path extending from another of the orifices through the sleeve central passageway.
- 7. The valve means of claim 3 wherein said pin and said central passageway each has a uniform cross-sectional diameter.
- 8. The valve means of claim 7 wherein the elongated pin has a greater axial length than the sleeve.
- 9. The valve means of claim 7 wherein the sleeve is adapted such that while it blocks or does not block the fixed annular orifice, there can be an open polymer material flow path extending from another or the orifices through the sleeve central passageway.
