Claims
- 1. An apparatus for performing multiple processing operations upon a slaughtered animal or a part thereof, the apparatus comprising:a. a frame; b. a first processor mounted in the frame for performing a first processing operation upon the animal or part thereof; c. a second processor mounted in the frame for performing a second processing operation upon the animal or part thereof; and d. a conveyor having a path that: i. feeds into the frame in an infeed orientation towards the first processor; ii. extends around part of the first processor; iii. travels within the frame from the first processor to the second processor; iv. extends around part of the second processor; and v. feeds out of the frame in an outfeed orientation.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the path of the conveyor traveling from the first processor to the second processor is generally S-shaped.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the path of the conveyor traveling from the first processor to the second processor is generally V-shaped.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the path of the conveyor traveling from the first processor to the second processor is generally U-shaped.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the wrap of at least one of the processors is greater than 180°.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the position of at least one of the processors is adjustable in the frame.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the infeed orientation is generally parallel to the outfeed orientation.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the infeed orientation is in line with the outfeed orientation.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the frame further comprises:a. a plurality of legs; b. means for interconnecting the legs; c. a conveyor track for receiving the conveyor; and d. means for coupling each of the first and second processors to the frame.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the conveyor further comprises at least one guide wheel.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a covering generally surrounding the first and second processors.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first processor is adapted to cut the neck of the animal, and the second processor is adapted to clean the neck of the animal.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first processor is adapted to remove the vent of the animal, and the second processor is adapted to open the belly of the animal.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first processor is adapted to open the belly of the animal, and the second processor is adapted to eviscerate the animal.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 1, for processing poultry wherein the first processor is adapted to cut the neck of the poultry, and the second processor is adapted to crop the poultry.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first processor and the second processor are rotary.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first processor and the second processor each have multiple stations.
- 18. A method for performing multiple automated processing operations upon a slaughtered animal or a part thereof using a single machine comprising at least a first processor and a second processor coupled by a conveyor and positioned within a common frame, the method comprising:a. performing a first processing operation upon the animal or part thereof at the fist processor; b. conveying the animal or part thereof by the conveyor along a path located generally within the frame and traveling from the first processor to the second processor, wherein the path: i. feeds into the frame in an infeed orientation towards the first processor; ii. extends around part of the first processor; iii. travels within the frame from the first processor to the second processor; iv. extends around part of the second processor; and v. feeds out of the frame in an outfeed orientation; and c. performing a second processing operation upon the animal or part thereof at the second processor.
- 19. The method of claim 18, further comprising the step of orienting the animal or part thereof to be processed so that a first side of the animal or part thereof faces the first processor and a second side of the animal or part thereof faces the second processor.
- 20. The method of claim 18, further comprising the steps of cleaning the first and second processors with a fluid and providing a covering in order to minimize escape of fluid from into the area adjacent the machine.
