Claims
- 1. A method for processing an emergency call made from behind a PBX/MLTS said method comprising the steps of:
a) storing a port equipment number for each device/trunk of the PBX/MLTS; b) determining from which port the emergency call originated; and c) transmitting to a public safety answering point information associated with the port equipment number of the device/trunk from which the emergency call originated.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of associating an emergency location identification number (ELIN) with each port equipment number.
- 3. A method according to claim 2 wherein said step of transmitting includes transmitting the ELIN associated with the port equipment number of the port from which the emergency call originated.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of associating a callback number with each port equipment number.
- 5. A method according to claim 4 wherein said step of transmitting includes transmitting the callback number associated with the port equipment number of the port from which the emergency call originated.
- 6. A method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of associating an emergency location identification number (ELIN) and a callback number with each port equipment number.
- 7. A method according to claim 6 wherein said step of transmitting includes transmitting the ELIN and callback number associated with the port equipment number of the port from which the emergency call originated.
- 8. A method according to claim 1 further comprising the step of assigning a device identification number to each device coupled to each port.
- 9. A method according to claim 8 wherein said step of determining includes determining from which device the emergency call originated.
- 10. A method according to claim 9 wherein said step of transmitting includes transmitting information associated with the device identification number of the device from which the emergency call originated.
- 11. An apparatus for processing an emergency call made from behind a PBX/MLTS, said apparatus comprising:
a) means for storing a port equipment number for each device/trunk of the PBX/MLTS; b) means for determining from which port the emergency call originated; and c) means for transmitting to a public safety answering point information associated with the port equipment number of the device/trunk from which the emergency call originated.
- 12. An apparatus according to claim 11 further comprising means for associating an emergency location identification number (ELIN) with each port equipment number.
- 13. An apparatus according to claim 12 wherein said means for transmitting includes means for transmitting the ELIN associated with the port equipment number of the device/trunk from which the emergency call originated.
- 14. An apparatus according to claim 12 further comprising means for associating a callback number with each ELIN.
- 15. An apparatus according to claim 14 wherein said means for transmitting includes means for transmitting the callback number associated with the ELIN of the device/trunk from which the emergency call originated.
- 16. An apparatus according to claim 12 further comprising means for associating an emergency location identification number (ELIN) and a callback number with each port equipment number.
- 17. An apparatus according to claim 16 wherein said means for transmitting includes means for transmitting the ELIN and callback number associated with the port equipment number of the device/trunk from which the emergency call originated.
- 18. An apparatus according to claim 11 further comprising means for assigning a device identification number to each device coupled to each port.
- 19. An apparatus according to claim 18 wherein said means for determining includes means for determining from which device/trunk the emergency call originated.
- 20. An apparatus according to claim 19 wherein said means for transmitting includes means for transmitting information associated with the device identification number of the device from which the emergency call originated.
